Bishop Manogue: Quick Hits

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

The Bishop Manogue Scout Day in the books, we now take a look back at the standouts from yesterday's event. The Scout Day included a Pro-Style Workout where players ran a Laser Timed 60 Yard Dash, took a Batting Practice, Catcher Pop Times/Velocity, Outfield Evaluations/Velocity and Infield Evaluation/Velocity concluding with Pitches Bullpens. This was an exclusive event for players in the Bishop Manogue program to highlight current players as well as a spotlight on the current state of the program itself.

Seth McGrath / 3B/RHP / 2021

McGrath came into into the Bishop Manogue Scout Day fresh off of his commitment to the College of San Mateo. He stood out on both sides of the ball with a loud round of batting practice that showed his present power to the pull side, following it up with some flow through the fielding process and an Infield Velocity of 86 mph. On the mound is where McGrath stood out with his fastball up to 88 mph, sitting 86-87 mph, with some downhill/arm side action. He complimented his fastball with a pair of secondary pitches that he commanded well in the zone including a change up that flashes arm side life and heaviness at 68-72 mph and a breaking ball that had late, tight 11/5 break at 73-75 mph. McGrath is expected to be a key piece of the Miner's success this Spring and we expect him to carry his two-way success to the next level as well.

Cal Scolari / RHP/OF /2023

Scolari's stock continues to rise as his fastball continues to trend in the right direction with seemingly more in the tank as he continues to add physical strength to his long, lean 6-foot-3, 160 pound frame. His length paired with the looseness in his arm makes him a very interesting follow with projectability on his side. He ran his fastball up to 85 mph on a day where the temperatures topped out in the high 30's/low 40's and his secondary pitches continue to progress with a changeup ranging from 68-74 mph with some sink and fade and a slider that had sweeping action when he let it go out front and flashed some back up action when left the arm side of the plate. Scolari's continued progress has put him on the short list of players considered to represent Nevada at the 2021 Future Games.

Luke Metzker / SS/RHP / 2022

A Team Nevada representative at the 2020 Future Games, Metzker games continues to trend in the right direction with new personal bests achieved in almost every statistical category. His day started with a mature round of batting practice, spraying the ball gap to gap with some power potential to the pull side on display. He then followed it up with an event and Scout Day Season best 90 mph Infield Velocity to go with his clean actions with comfort ranging to both the forehand and backhand sides. His fastball velocity continues to climb the as well as he earned a share of the the event best 88 mph on the bump that he pairs with a developing changeup that flashes arm side fade and his go to curveball that has 11/5 shape at 67-70 mph.

Sam Kane / SS/RHP / 2023

Kane is another athletic middle infield with two-way capabilities that the Miners have in their pipeline that found himself near the top of each statistical category collected at the Bishop Manogue Scout Day. His visibly stronger frame was put to use early as he ran a 6.98 Laser Timed 60 Yard Dash. His followed up his run with an event best 91 mph Raw Exit Velocity that translated directly into his batting practice round where his pull side power is starting to shine through to compliment his ability to drive the ball to both gaps. Defensively, he showcased his fluid actions though the ball with feel for the backhand play that he paired with an 86 mph Infield Velocity, that should allow him to stay on the left side of the infield at the next level. He also spent some time at first base where he may spend most of his time this year as a younger middle infielder in a shortstop rich program. This a player keep an eye on as his game continues to progress at each of his outing with Prep Baseball Report.

Logan Pruski / SS/RHP / 2022

An Under the Radar player that may not be Under the Radar much longer, Logan Pruski is another projectable two-way prospect that showed well at the plate, in the field and on the mound. He got his day started off with a 6.80 Laser Timed 60 before he stepped into the box, producing a line drive filled round of batting practice. Defensively, he ranged well to both sides with his present foot speed maintaining clean actions through the ball with an 87 mph Infield Velocity. On the bump, he showcased his four pitch mix where his fastball sat mid 80's while topping out 86 mph with a changeup, slider, curveball secondary repertoire that he was able to locate in the zone. Expect a breakout year on both side of the ball for Pruski with his complete game coming together as he heads into his junior campaign.
