GAME 1: WISCONSIN vs MICHIGAN
Strong pitching and quality at-bats started Team Wisconsin on the right foot in their first game of the PBR Future Games Tournament, in which they took the field against Team Michigan.
Team Wisconsin threw six arms in game one, four of which had shutout innings in their appearances. To start, RHP Nolan Buss (Arrowhead, 2024) threw a clean first inning for Team Wisconsin, as he struck out one batter and peaked at 91 mph from the bump. Buss featured a couple of different secondary offerings for strikes and was consistently on the attack with his arsenal.

DeTienne impressed with an athletic delivery and extremely quick arm which created a late tailing finish on the fastball up to 90 mph. He pitched with intent and focus and was consistently on the attack.

And finally, RHP Kaden Corlett (Solon Springs, 2024) only walked one batter and struck out one in his appearance. C Hunter Carlson (Hudson, 2024) helped out as well, as he threw out a stealing runner. Carlson continued to impress our scouts with his defense with his presentation of strikes and calming presence for pitchers.
Offensively, Team Wisconsin strung together 11 hits and three players had multi-hit games. Among those was the MVP of the game: C William Hoerner (Appleton North, 2024), who had a double to right-centerfield and an inside-the-park home run that bounced past the centerfielder. Hoerner displayed an on-balance approach with the ability to see and stay back on off-speed offerings, keeping his hands back and barreling both extra base hits up.

INF Trent Cornell (Altoona, 2024), INF Eddie Peters (La Crosse Aquinas, 2024) OF Cade Palkowski (Oak Creek, 2024) also were all over the barrel for Team Wisconsin. Cornell, as bouncy infielder drove in one run on a single up the middle and also lined out on a hard hit ball to center. As for Peters, he barreled one down the left-field line for a XBH. Palkowski got the scoring started for Team Wisconsin as he also hit a ground-rule double to right field that drove in two runs.

Team Wisconsin also got help from INF Keagen Jirschele (Mosinee, 2024) and INF Brock Lulewicz (Muskego, 2024), who each had a double, two hits, and drove in a combined three RBIs. Jirschele showcased his impressive bat to ball skills keeping the front side on the baseball and using the big part of the field on both hits. Lulewicz impressed with his ability to stay on balance in both at bats, shooting a base hit to the opposite field and leaning on a pitch to the inner part of the plate missing a home run by only a couple feet.

The offense added four runs in the third inning, and three runs in the fourth to pull away from Team Michigan, who had an early 3-1 lead. After five innings of play, Team Wisconsin created a 9-4 lead.
After a clean sixth inning, Team Wisconsin began tournament play with a 9-4 victory and will play at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow against Team Select.
GAME 2: WISCONSIN vs SELECT
Team Wisconsin took the field for Day 2 of the PBR Future Games Tournament, as they took on Team Select at the LakePoint Sports Complex.
After a quiet first inning, the Team Wisconsin offense exploded in the second inning, in which they put up six runs. Four players had a hit in the inning, including a leadoff double from INF Trent Cornell (Altoona, 2024), and singles from INF Keagen Jirschele (Mosinee, 2024), UTIL Brock Lulewicz (Muskego, 2024), and 3B/OF Eason Hurd (Ashwaubenon, 2024).
Team Wisconsin sprinkled in two more runs in the last six innings of play, as the team finished with a total eight hits and 11 walks.
On the bump, the pitching staff held a talented Team Select lineup to two runs in eight innings. Team Wisconsin started with LHP Jackson Brewer (Homestead, 2024) for two innings, as he didn’t give up any runs, and struck out one batter. Brewer showcased his loose, easy, and repeatable delivery with mostly his fastball and slider combination, mixing in an occasional change-up. Brewer, a nationally ranked prospect who remains uncommitted, has talent and skill both on the mound and in the batter’s box.

LHP Tannis Lange (Waukesha South, 2024) followed, and lived up to the expectations. In his two innings, one unearned run was the lone blemish on Lange’s line, as he struck out one batter. Lange impressed by filling the zone with a FB up to 88 mph and a hard slider. He displayed his competitiveness by being on the attack consistently making pitches when he needed to execute.

Manning those innings from behind the plate was C Hunter Carlson (Hudson, 2024), who had a successful weekend both offensively and defensively. He showcased his left handed bat, arm from behind the plate, and pitch calling during his time on the field.
C Hunter Carlson (@Hud_BaseballWI, 2024) was one of the winners of the weekend. A clean catch-and-throw, advanced receiver, loose/accurate throws T78 mph to the bag. Also swings an easy LH bat with barrel feel.#PBRFG22

In the fifth and sixth inning, RHP Kyle Alivo (St. Thomas More, 2024) was able to settle in for Team Wisconsin, as he struck out three batters and had a clean sixth inning. Alivo is a quick mover on the mound, including a powerful lower half and a ultra quick arm that had buzz in the stands about the future projection of the stuff. Alivo’s velocity maxed out at 88 mph with a spin rate of over 2400 RPM’s, showing carry and ride through the zone. He flashed a couple of change-ups with excellent arm speed and late depth and fade to the pitch. In his second inning, Alivo found the feel for the slider, showing late lateral bite, getting called strikes and swings and misses. Alivo put himself on the radar after this impressive two-inning showing.
RHP Kyle Alivo (@CavBaseball, 2024) is a quick, loose-armed righty who creates premium spin. FB carries, 85-87 mph (T88), at over 2,400 rpm. Deceptive CH at arm speed, 77-78 mph. Sweeping SL, 71-74 mph, that has swing/miss upside.#PBRFG22

And in the final two innings, LHP Easton Bobb (Chippewa Falls, 2024) coasted to two clean innings of baseball, as he struck out a batter and got a double play. Bobb showcased his ability to repeat his loose, smooth and athletic delivery with a quick arm driving fastballs to spots at 84-85 mph. He also landed multiple big breaking balls for strikes and showcased the ability to get it below the zone. His fastball is deceptive with good finish to the pitch and lateral tailing action. Bobb impressed with his ability to attack, throw strikes, and get off balance swings.
The offensive and pitching combination for Team Wisconsin led to a 8-2 victory, their second in as many days. Hurd was named the MVP of the game, as he finished 2-for-3 with two singles that left the bat over 92 mph, a walk, and an RBI. Hurd showcased the ability to get off short, quick swings to and through the baseball with balance and an extremely quiet head. He continues to impress both with the glove and the bat. Hurd is a winning type without many holes in his game.
3B/OF Eason Hurd (@ShwaubBaseball, 2024) is an all-around competitive RHH with reliable defense in the corners and surprising strength. Two singles (below) with EVs recorded at 96 and 92 mph, respectively; 83 mph INF velocity across.#PBRFG22

GAME 3: WISCONSIN vs PNW
In the final game of the PBR Future Games Tournament, Team Wisconsin took on Team PNW (Pacific Northwest), looking to finish undefeated over the weekend.
RHP Nate Langbehn (DC Everest, 2024) began the game on the bump for Team Wisconsin, as he threw a scoreless inning, only giving up one hit. Langbehn had excellent finish on both the FB and the breaking ball in the outing. The tailing, late finish to the FB with the ability to drive it through spots set up a late breaking spike CB that had hitters off balance. He did a great job of landing the CB for strikes and showed the ability to command it below the zone. Langbehn firmly established himself as one of the top pitchers for the 2024 class after this outing.
The offense took off in the second inning, as they put up four runs with the help of singles from both INF Keagen Jirschele (Mosinee, 2024) and 1B/LHP Jackson Brewer (Homestead, 2024), who each barreled baseballs through the infield. Jirschele consistently displayed the ability to barrel up baseballs with high exit velos all week. A gritty gamer, he seemed to be in the middle of run scoring innings all week. Jirschele has solidified himself as a top uncommitted talent for the class. Likewise, Brewer smashed a line drive to the pull side, opening eyes with both the swing and the ability to time up velocity to the inner third of the plate. Brewer, a two-way talent with a high ceiling, likely won’t stay uncommitted for too much longer.
Walks were a killer for Team Wisconsin’s pitching staff on Saturday, as the group gave away 11 free bases in six innings of play. Team Pacific Northwest used that to grab the lead back after the third inning, and scored eight unanswered runs.
RHP Jack DeTienne (Verona, 2024) followed up his Thursday performance with another scoreless outing on Saturday. DeTienne was able to get out of a jam after a couple of wild pitches, and struck out a batter in his one inning of work. DeTienne is a prospect that really popped this week and this outing was another indication of the top end arm talent he possesses. He showed the ability to drive the late, sinking FB through the zone sitting in the upper 80’s and topping out at an impressive 90 mph. He also flashed a hard SL with late finish. The ceiling is high for DeTienne with talent, impressive skill, big projection to the frame, and the athlete, making him one of the more interesting profiles at the entire event.
In the sixth inning, UTIL Trent Cornell (Altoona, 2024) and OF Cade Palkowski (Oak Creek, 2024) barreled a double and triple respectively. Each hit traveled to the wall, and both showcased the power of each prospect. Cornell continued to show his presence in the box with the ability to whip the barrel through the zone and attack strikes. He impresses with his natural hand talent to drive balls to the gaps and over outfielders heads. Cornell is a top end talent in the entire state and will make an impact with his ability to hit and slug for a program at the next level. Likewise, Palkowski turned heads with the triple he hit to straight away centerfield. Palkowksi has electric hand speed and impressive strength. He showcased excellent balance and strike zone awareness, indicating that the hit tool will be something to covet for a program at the next level. Additionally, Cade showcased his quick burst and impressive turnover when running, as he easily recorded a stand up triple. A prospect with multiple tools, it would be surprising to see Palkowski remain uncommitted for too much longer.
The offense for Team Wisconsin could not keep up with Team PNW’s scoring, as they went on to win 11-5. Team Wisconsin, for the second straight season, finished 2-1 in the 3-game showcase.
