RHP/INF Kyle Alivo (St. Thomas More, 2024; Iowa commit) was potentially the best we’ve seen him in recent memory. The Iowa commit was dominant in his start, working his fastball up to 92 mph early on and cruising at 88-90, still reaching back for 90 mph in the fourth inning. He showed clear confidence in his slider, thrown often and in any count at 75-77 mph with sharp 10/4 action, spinning over 2600 RPM at times. He also flashed a changeup in the upper-70s with fade and arm-speed. Highly athletic and a competitor on the mound. He also showed a knack for the barrel throughout the tournament with his athletic right-handed stroke, nearly leaving the yard for a home run on Friday. Quality actions on the infield dirt, fluid footwork with range to both sides of his glove. Arm easily translates to the infield with life and carry across the diamond. Currently ranked No. 9 in Wisconsin.
Iowa commit. Alivo did it all on both sides of the ball on Monday when we saw him. After coming in to get the save in the semi-final game for PTA with a fastball that touched 90 mph, Alivo would start the championship game as well. At the plate, he launched a home run over the left-center fence to help his own cause on the mound. On the bump, he worked a three-pitch mix with the fastball primarily working 87-89 mph, the slider was in the upper 70’s and got swings and misses throughout the outing, as well an 81 mph changeup that has true out-pitch potential. Punched out seven in five innings.
Iowa commit. Alivo was a two-way contributor on the mound for the Cavaliers during their 3-0 week. Alivo tossed a seven inning complete game shutout versus Shoreland Lutheran where he struck out 14 batters and only gave up two hits on the day. In three games at the plate he went 3-for-9 with a triple and five RBIs adding three runs himself.
Alivo put together one of the more, if not the most impressive ‘pen of the day. Currently the No. 14 ranked player in the state, the Iowa commit has all sorts of upside to go along with present ability, listed at 6-foot-1, 162-pounds. The right-hander is an ultra-athletic mover down the mound, creating power and using his body well down the mound to create a fastball that sat 90-91 mph with over 2,300 RPM on average - also featuring above average ride through the zone with an average IVB of 16.6 (T18.2). He then went to a sinking fastball in the 84-88 mph range, topping out at 89 mph and playing with late/heavy downward action and feel to his arm-side. His changeup flashed well above-average as a potential out-pitch, dropping his slot slightly at times but still playing with late life and downward action, 77-79 mph. His final offering was a 10/4 slider that spun between 2,250-2,340 RPM, flashing sharp action at 75-79 mph. Extremely high-upside right-hander with more to come.

Body: 6-1, 162-pounds. Athletic build, projectable.
Hit: RHH. Loads into back side, gets to strong hitting position. Well sequenced, uses ground very well, strong quick hands, ball jumps.
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 88.2 mph. 337’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 93 mph. Long, loose, quick arm, 3/4 slot.
Defense: Two-hand gather, athletic actions, soft hands, quick, clean transfer, accurate throws.
Run: 7.32 runner in the 60.
Delivery: High leg lift, drop and drive delivery, athletic actions, works in-line.
Arm Action: RH. Loose, long, quick arm, 3/4 slot, acceleration out front.
FB: T91, 90-91 mph. Firm with carry through the zone. T2377, 2324 average rpm.
SL: 75-79 mph. 10/4 shape, horizontal action. T2341, 2250 average rpm.
CH: 77-79 mph. Maintains the same FB arm speed with fade and depth. T1783, 1762 average rpm.
Alivo seems a couple of inches taller than his previously listed 6-foot and with extra long limbs and plenty of room to fill out the projection for this uncommitted arm is through the roof. Alivo is a name who has proven himself in front of our staff a handful of times before and during Tuesday’s talented event he did it once again. On the mound Alivo is an athletic mover and despite his long levers he surprisingly syncs them up nicely. During his one inning, Alivo ran his fastball up to 85.7 mph and sat in the 84-85 range throughout. He also showcased an above average three pitch mix which included an almost sweeping type breaking ball with nearly 18 inches of horizontal movement and also showed feel for a hard fading changeup.

Arguably the most notable defensive standout of the day, SS/RHP Kyle Alivo (St. Thomas More, 2024) looks like a different human. At this event last year, he weighed in at 135-pounds standing 5-foot-8. He’s now 5-foot-11, 150-pounds and looks longer than that with the ability to carry significant additional strength. His infield actions look advanced, with quick glove work and a plus arm for his age at 91 mph across the infield. He looks natural and confident with the glove and showed the ability to every play necessary at SS. Later in his workout, Alivo hopped on the mound and displayed an uptick in what we had seen from him this summer. He ran his fastball up to 86 mph, pitching at 82-85 mph, and consistently ripped off several 2,500+ RPM sliders. In all, his two-way potential was certainly impressive and the St. Thomas More sophomore emerged a major winner from this event.
