Wisconsin Class of 2024 Rankings: Update

Today, as part of Prep Baseball Report’s rankings week, our PBR Wisconsin staff is unveiling an updated set of rankings for the class of seniors after a small but eventful fall.

Highlighted in the story below is an analysis of some of the top-15 prospects within Wisconsin’s 2024 class. Throughout the next couple of weeks, we’ll continue to break down the rankings update, shining light on newcomers and notable risers as we head into the offseason.

AT THE TOP OF THE CLASS

JD Dix MIF / Whitefish Bay, WI / 2024

Rankings, PBR Wisconsin: No. 1

Uncommitted: The top of the class stays untouched since our last update, headlined by Dix, who has not left this spot since the inception of this 2024 rankings board. Dix, yet again, put together an eye opening calendar year which is nothing new for this now uncommitted infielder. After willing Whitefish Bay to a state championship in true underdog fashion, Dix shined across the summer circuit with his premium offensive abilities from both sides of the plate, all while being a slick and lockdown defender up-the-middle. To cap off the summer, Dix represented the Badger State at the first-ever PBR All-American Game which pitted some of the nations top talents in the 2024 and 2025 classes against each other. Despite the amount of high-level names scattered throughout each of the rosters, Dix fit right in, and certainly looked the part of a premium talent from a national perspective. It has been another massive year for Dix, and after decommitting from Alabama back in August, he is certainly one of, if not the top uncommitted prospect in the country.

Jack DeTienne RHP / Verona Area, WI / 2024

Rankings, PBR Wisconsin: No. 2

(Xavier commit): After making a seismic rise to No. 2 on our state rankings in our summer update, DeTienne maintains that spot in this update after shining on the national stage in September. DeTienne joined the aforementioned Dix at the inaugural PBR All-American Game and much like Dix, DeTienne shined. In his outing at American Family Field, the live-armed right-hander was electric, running his fastball up to 94 mph from an athletic and powerful delivery. DeTienne just doesn’t have an overpowering fastball, his low-80s breaking ball is quickly becoming a plus-offering, and he used it to earn a number of whiffs against some of the nations top hitters in late September. What is even more impressive is that he still has plenty of upside in his long 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame and there is really no telling how high his ceiling could ultimately be on the mound.

Brock Lulewicz 3B / SS / Muskego, WI / 2024

Rankings, PBR Wisconsin: No. 3

(Wichita State commit): Staying at the No. 3 spot in this rankings update is Lulewicz, who has continued to show as one of the region’s top prospects over the course of the past year. Our most recent look at Lulewicz came at our annual Fall Championships at The Rock which featured many high-level prospects from Wisconsin and its surrounding states. There Lulewicz was one of the top offensive performers for his talented Hitters squad, which is nothing new for this Shockers commit. Lulewicz’s advanced approach and bat-to-ball skills were on display all weekend long and he has continued to flash more and more power from his smooth left-handed swing, which only adds to his already impressive prospect stock. On the infield, he is a slick and athletic defender with a strong arm that points to him sticking on the left-side of the infield at the next-level. He is a confident competitor on the diamond who will look to put the finishing touches on his already illustrious resume during his final prep season.

TOP-15 RISERS

+ RHP Nolan Buss (Arrowhead, 2024; Kansas State commit) jumps up one spot to No. 5 in the state in this update after yet another explosive look this fall. At the Fall Championships at The Rock, Buss came out firing as he ran his fastball up to 92 mph with some big life out of his hand. He also grabbed plenty of whiffs on a sharp, mid-70s slider, while fading a changeup to left-handed hitters, too. With these pitches already impressive in their own right, they all come from a unique delivery, making it even that more tough to pick up for opposing batters. Over the course of this year, Buss has continued to harness his electric offerings and he now looks even more the part of one of the state’s most dominant and interesting arms.

Nolan Buss (9/22/23)

+ RHP Avery Duncan (Notre Dame Academy, 2024; Dallas Baptist commit) has continued to see his stock improve over the past year, now slotting in at our No. 7 spot as well as making his debut in our national rankings. The right-hander possesses arm talent that stands out now running his fastball into the low-90s with improved feel for his offspeed pitches. His slider which has been his go-to weapon for some time now and continues to be his go-to pitch for him and his late fading changeup has shown steady development over the past year. Duncan is poised for a successful senior season as he will put the finishing touches on his prep career. 

+ RHP Kyle Alivo (St. Thomas More, 2024; Iowa commit) finds himself rising once again in this update, jumping up one spot into our No. 8 spot. The highly athletic right-hander impressed once again, at the Fall Championships with one of his best performances we’ve seen, working his fastball up to 92 mph during his start and was holding his velocity throughout. Also showed feel for two offspeed pitches in this look, the slider being the better of the two-pitches that he throws with conviction with sharp 10/4 movement in the upper-70s. His changeup has developed into a weapon and he throws it with armspeed with heavy fading action. Alivo is the ultimate competitor and has been one of the top performers in the state over the past few years. 

Kyle Alivo (9/23/23)

+ After a big jump in our last rankings update, C Hunter Carlson (Hudson, 2024; Wichita State commit) finds himself cracking the top-15 in this one. Carlson is a strong 6-foot-1, 195-pound backstop who is known for his defensive abilities behind the plate, as he has marked pop-time lows of 1.95 in front of our staff before. But as the year went on, he started to connect for more and more power from his smooth left-handed swing. At July’s Top Prospect Games event, Carlson was towards the top in multiple batted ball metrics, all while being an advanced defender both during the showcase portion and live gameplay. Now as a senior, Carlson continues to trend up our 2024 board as he now finds himself at a much deserved No. 15 inside of our rankings board.

ARROW-UP SENIORS

+ Despite not moving inside of our state’s rankings, OF Logan Dunn (Wautoma, 2024; Missouri State commit) will be moving up a number of spots in the National Rankings after another impressive fall. Dunn’s explosive athleticism affects the game in a multitude of ways, as he is an easy moving defender in the outfield that covers a lot of ground and pairs it with a strong arm that has been up to 91 mph in front of our staff that surely will allow him to stick in center field at the next-level. At the plate, he gets the most out of his strong 6-foot, 185-pound frame to consistently rip line drives all over the field and has the ability to stretch them out for extra bases. This fall, Dunn’s offensive abilities were on full display at The Rock for the Fall Championships, where his quick and loose left-handed swing collected a number of hits with a healthy amount of them coming off some high-end velocity. Dunn has long been one of the state’s top talents and heading into his final prep season, things are no different as he maintains his No. 4 spot in our 2024 rankings board. 

+ While MIF Eddie Rynders (Wisconsin Lutheran, 2024; Kent State commit) didn’t move up in this update, per se, he still continued to make strides to his game which helped him maintain his No. 10 spot and he also earned a spot in the national rankings, too. This fall, Rynders certainly looked the part of a top-10 player in the state at the Fall Championships at The Rock. There, it looked like he added on some muscle mass to his already athletic 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame. Offensively, Rydners did his thing all weekend long, collecting a multitude of hits to all parts of the field against some stacked competition. Rynders’ improvements defensively were also a big takeaway for our staff, as he was as lockdown as it gets on the infield and he made a number of tough plays, too.

Eddie Rynders (9/24/23)

+ Staying at No. 11 overall, MIF Eddie Peters (La Crosse Aquinas, 2024; Xavier commit) has been one of the most consistent performers in front of our staff over the last couple of years. The 2022 PBR Future Games participant swings a quick and loose bat from the right-side that is capable of spraying balls to all parts of the field. Inside of his strong 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame, Peters also holds some big time power potential that he has already shown flashes of. On the infield, he is a smooth moving defender with soft and sure hands that certainly look to stay on the infield for the long-term. Peters’ is a confident, high-ceiling player inside of the state and is certainly a name to mention when talking about the state’s best.

ELSEWHERE IN THE TOP-15

+ RHP/INF Noah Wech (Manitowoc Lincoln, 2024; Oklahoma State commit) continued to show off some of the state’s loudest stuff over the course of the fall. Listed at a strong and athletic 6-foot, 187-pounds, Wech shined at the Fall Championships at The Rock where he ran his lively fastball up to 91 mph on a cold fall night. His two offspeed offerings also showed as out-pitches, the first being a sharp slider in the 78-81 mph range which averaged mid-to-high 2,000 spin. The second of the two was a change of pace changeup in the low-80s with fade and depth. While Wech has been dominant on the mound for some time now, his offensive abilities can’t be overlooked. At the plate, he swings an aggressive but controlled right-handed bat that is capable of ripping line drives to all parts of the field. 

Noah Wech (9/23/23)

+ At 6-foot-4, 210-pounds OF/1B Jackson Brewer (Homestead, 2024; Columbia commit) may boast some of the highest upside of the position player crop on this rankings board. Even with all of the upside that Brewer has, he already is an intimidating presence in the left-handed box for opposing pitchers. Creating easy power from his smooth left-handed swing, Brewer shined across the summer and fall circuit’s as he constantly launched balls to all parts of the field. Despite his large stature, Brewer is a 6.75 runner which he uses to routinely stretch hits for extra bases. This athleticism is also apparent in the outfield, a position he is somewhat new to as he effortlessly tracks down fly balls and pairs it with a strong arm which makes him a more than viable outfield option at the next-level.

+ LHP Tannis Lange (Waukesha South, 2024; Ohio State commit) has long been one of the state’s most competitive arms, and throughout the year, more and more velocity has been coming from this southpaw. Lange is an athletic and easy mover on the bump who has ran his fastball up to 89 mph in our looks. He has feel to spin a low-to-mid-70s breaking ball with sweep and also kills spin on a high-70s change with fade. With plenty of upside in his long 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame, the ceiling is enormous for this future Buckeye as he finishes up his prep career. 

+ One of the state’s top athletes, OF Cade Palkowski (Oak Creek, 2024; North Carolina commit) stays inside of the top-15 in this update. Our most recent look at Palkowski came at the annual Fall Championships at The Rock where he continued to show off his quick left-handed swing and advanced athleticism. His 6.82 speed is apparent on the outfield, as he is able to easily track down fly balls, and pairs it with a strong arm that has been up to 91 mph on his throws home. Palkowski will certainly take full advantage of his final offseason before the spring and he will be one of the key pieces on an ultra-talented Oak Creek squad come that time.
