OK Winter Showcase Analysis: RHPs

PBR OK hosted the third annual OK Winter Open at the state of the art World Baseball Outreach indoor facility. There were invite-only players showcased their skill in front of the PBR OK staff, 4 colleges and a pro scout. The talented event saw six sub 7.00 60s, five 90+ exit velos, five infield velos of 80+, three outfield velos of 85+, two sub 2.00 second pop times, and nine max fastballs at 80+ mph. Today, we take an in-depth look at the 18 RHPs from the event.
Drew Adcock SS / RHP / Oklahoma Christian School, OK / 2023A 5-foot-11, 165 pound long and lean frame. On the mound the right-hander works from a controlled tempo delivery with a high leg kick a slight pause at the top before gliding down the mound and finishing towards the dish. Arm action is very long in the back, getting fully extended before getting short and coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball keeps its plane, ranging 72-74 mph, mostly strikes. Changeup shows late fade at 66-67 mph. Curveball is still developing with 11/5 rolling action at 64-65 mph. |
William Edmunson OF / RHP / Homeschool, OK / 2021Impressively athletic in his 6-foot, 200-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander works from an old school, up-tempo, and athletic delivery with rhythm. Arm action has length in the back with a quick change of direction at the bottom of the arm stroke before coming through a ¾ slot with whip and arm speed. Fastball shows consistent and heavy arm side run at 81-84 mph with more in the tank, nearly all strikes. Curveball is advanced with near 12/6 shape and consistent late depth, mostly strikes at 74-75 mph. Changeup shows heavy fade and sink at 78-79, nearly all strikes. |
Alex Gantz RHP / OF / Lincoln Christian, OK / 2022A very lean 5-foot-1, 152-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo and smooth delivery with a short leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is very short with a wrist hook in the back before coming through a ¾ slot. Fastball sits 72-75 mph with consistent cutting action, some strikes. Changeup shows some fade at 64-67 mph, some strikes. Curveball shows 11/5 shape with depth when down in the zone at 63-65 mph. |
Eli Garrison 3B / OF / Broken Arrow, OK / 2023A developing and extremely lean 5-foot-8, 110-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander works from a deliberate windup with a high and coiling leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is moderate and clean in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball keeps its plane at 67-68 mph, mostly strikes. Changeup shows fade at 59-60 mph. Curveball shows 12/6 shape with rolling action, mostly strikes, at 58-60 mph. |
Ethan Horton RHP / Yukon, OK / 2023A 6-foot-1, 154-pound lean and projectable frame with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a high up, down, and out lag kick, striding across his body and finishing slightly to the first base side. Arm action is long and controlled in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot with looseness. Fastball sits 73-78 mph with some downhill tilt, a few strikes. Changeup is still developing with some fade at 71-72 mph. Slider shows 10/4 shape at 68-69 mph, thrown with full arm speed. |
Hunter Jones C / RHP / Norman North, OK / 2021A durable and broad shouldered 6-foot, 195-pound frame present strength especially in the lower half. On the mound, the right-hander works from a simple and up-tempo delivery with some rhythm and a moderate leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action has moderate length in the back making a fluid circle before coming through a high-¾ slot with some arm speed. Fastball sits 79-81 mph with cut to the glove side and run to the arm side, nearly all strikes. Curveball has 11/5 shape with some late depth at 65-69 mph. |
Jacob Kennedy 3B / RHP / Enid , OK / 2023A lean and projectable 6-foot, 155-pound frame with room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an up-tempo delivery with rhythm and some athleticism. Uses a high and quick leg leg before striding down the mound and finishing balanced with a recoil finish. Arm action has moderate quick and clean length in the back before coming through a near over the top slot. Fastball keeps its plane at 75-78 mph, mostly strikes. Curveball shows near 12/6 shape with occasional tight spin and some late depth at 62-65 mph, some strikes. Changeup shows some fade at 68-69 mph. |
William Long RHP / OF / Metro Christian Academy, OK / 2021A proportional 5-foot-11, 176-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander works from a back foot heavy stretch with a moderate leg lift before driving down the mound. Arm action has moderate length in the back with a quick change of direction at the bottom of his arm stroke before bringing it through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sits 78-80 mph with natural and consistent cut, mostly strikes. Curveball shows big 12/6 shape with some late depth at 67-70 mph, thrown with near full arm speed, mostly strikes. |
Brett McComas RHP / C / Deer Creek , OK / 2022A lean and still developing 5-foot-9, 152-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with some rhythm and a high coiling leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing slightly to the first base side. Arm action is long and loose in the back, pulling through a high-¾ slot with advanced arm speed. Fastball shows cut to the glove side at 84-86 mph, some strikes. Changeup shows consistent late fade, thrown with full arm speed at 74-78 mph, mostly strikes. Slider is advanced with late 10/4 shape and hard biting action at 71-73 mph, some strikes. |
Garrett McDown RHP / OF / Westmoore, OK / 2021A lean 5-foot-11, 155-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an averager tempo delivery with a controlled and deliberate leg kick before striding far down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is long and fluid in the back before coming through an over the top slot. Fastball sits 75-78 mph with some downhill tilt, mostly strikes. Curveball has 12/6 shape with late bite and depth at 67-70 mph, some strikes. Slider has 11/5 shape with more cutting action and late life at 69-70 mph. |
Jacob Morrow 3B / RHP / Owasso, OK / 2022A physically advanced 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame with strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with rhythm that he repeats well. Uses a high and controlled led kick before gliding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is long, clean, and loose in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot with little effort. Fastball keeps its plane at 79-80 mph, mostly strikes. Curveball is advanced, showing 10/4 shape with consistent and late depth, mostly strikes at 64-68 mph. Drew Qualls OF / RHP / Edmond Santa Fe, OK / 2022A developing 5-foot-, 140-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a moderate and coiling leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing to the first base side. Arm action has moderate length in the back, stabbing straight down before coming through a low-⅗ slot. Fastball shows some arm-side at 73-74 mph, some strikes. Curveball shows 11/5 shape, flashing tight spin and late depth at times at 67-68 mph, some strikes. |
Ethan Rone 3B / SS / Choctaw, OK / 2022A physically advanced 5-foot-11, 195-pound frame with strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from a slightly up tempo delivery with rhythm and a high leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing to the first base side. Arm action is quick, fluid and clean before coming through a high-¾ slot with quickness. Fastball sits 79-81 touching 82 mph, flashing arm side run, mostly strikes. Curveball morphs between 11/5 and 10/4 shape at 64-68 mph with some depth for consistent strikes. Changeup is advanced with consistent fade and sink thrown with full arm speed at 74-76 mph, mostly strikes. |
Grayson Smith C / RHP / Fort Gibson, OK / 2023A physically advanced 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame with room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a high leg kick before taking a slightly abbreviated and open stride down the mound finishing towards the first base side. Arm action is long and controlled in the back before coming through a ¾ slot. Fastball shows cutting action at 75-76 mph, some strikes. Curveball has 10/4 shape with Frisbee sweeping action, spins out at times, 54-59 mph, some strikes. Changeup shows some fade at 60-61 mph. |
Jesse Tisdell OF / 2B / Choctaw HS, OK / 2022On the mound, the right-hander works from a slightly up tempo and simple delivery before taking an abbreviated stride and finishing balanced down the mound. Arm action has moderate length in the back before making a small arm circle and coming through a high-¾ slot with some stiffness. Fastball keeps its plane at 77-79 mph, nearly all strikes. Cale Wetwiska OF / RHP / Bethany, OK / 2023A lean 5-foot-11, 155-pound frame with some wiry strength and room to add more. On the mound, the right-hander works from a simple and average tempo delivery that he repeats well. Uses a moderate leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is long in the back, mostly clean, before coming through a near over the top slot. Fastball keeps its plane at 75-77 mph, mostly strikes. Connor Wilson RHP / 3B / Owasso, OK / 2023A 6-foot-1, 190-pound advanced frame with long legs. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo and simple delivery with a moderate leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing slightly to the first base side. Arm action is long, clean, and controlled in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot with arm speed. Fastball shows arm-side run at 74-77 mph with easy effort and nearly all strikes. Kaden Wright RHP / OF / Bixby, OK / 2022A 5-foot-11, 167-pound athletic frame with room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with some rhythm and moderate coiling leg kick before striding far down the mound and finishing slightly to the first base side. Arm action is long, fluid, and controlled in the back before coming through an near over the top slot with elite arm speed for his age. Fastball keeps its plane at 84-86 mph, few strikes.
