Future Prospects Showcase - McCook: Statistical Analysis
April 28, 2021
The third Future Prospects Showcase & Educational Camp for the 2025 and 2026 graduating classes took place on Wednesday, April 21st at The MAX in McCook, IL. Close to 70 prospects participated in a pro-style workout in front of the PBR Illinois Scouting Staff. Today, we start the event analysis with a breakdown of the statistical leaders and a look at a few noteworthy prospects.
The two best arms on the day were also the only two who topped at 80 mph or harder.
+ OF/LHP Landon Sarkey (Hanover Central IN, 2025) put together one of the more impressive positional player showings before stepping on the mound. As a position player, Sarkey has a polished, loose and athletic left-handed swing with above-average feel for the barrel. Sarkey made a bunch of hard gap-to-gap contact and profiles in the middle-of-a-lineup moving forward. Defensively, he plays with bounce and rhythm, aggressively playing through the baseball with athletic actions and a strong arm that topped at 83 mph in the outfield. Sarkey’s arm strength and athleticism translate to the mound where he topped at 81 mph while showing above-average feel for a three-pitch mix.
+ 2026 RHP Callaghan O’Connor (Bishop McNamara) has arguably one of the brightest futures of anyone in attendance. O’Connor has a 6-foot-2, 170-pound, long, lean, high-waisted and highly-projectable frame. Given his advanced frame, O’Connor repeats his delivery and controls his levers extremely well for his age. He uses a tall and fall delivery that works on-line down the mound, lands soft and with minimal effort throughout. O’Connor filled up the strike zone with a fastball that sat in the mid-70’s touching 80. It is hard to believe there are more impressive looking 2026’s around the state of Illinois with the kind of upside O’Connor features. Expect to see his name a lot more over the coming years.
Some of the top right-handed bat strength during BP belonged to C Benjamin Mitchell (Hampshire, 2025) and SS Braden Green (Oak Park-River Forest, 2025). Mitchell has a 6-foot-1, 190-pound, physical frame and routinely showed off easy bat speed and power in his round of BP. It is a pull-side oriented approach with lift and power potential in his swing. Defensively, Mitchell showed well behind the plate with receptive hands and a low pop time of 2.18. Green repeated hard contact throughout his round and did so with minimal effort.
Another 2025 bat to keep tabs on is 5-foot-9, 160-pound, switch-hitting outfielder, Henry Murray (St. Edwards). Murray, who also ran the top 60 time of the event at 7.32 has a polished approach at the plate, especially from the right-side. It is a simple fast bat, consistently on time with feel for the barrel and natural lift in his swing.
TJ McQuillan (Lake Central, IN) is a bat to follow closely in the 2026 class. Listed at 5-foot-11, 205-pounds, McQuillan has a confident look in the box, stays short and simple to the baseball and creates easy pull-side lift and jump off the barrel. The results were mixed during his round but McQuillan fits the mold of a middle of the order left-handed hitter with a chance to hit for a lot of power down the road.
Dylan Kassab (Hinsdale Central) was another highly-interesting bat in the 2026 class. Kassab has an athletic, 5-foot-7, 145-pound frame and creates advanced whip in his right-handed swing. It's a fluid swing with length through the zone and the ball jumped off the barrel to both gaps.
Karlos Otero (2025, N/A) and Matthew Zebrauskas (De La Salle, 2025) were two of the top infielders on the day. Otero has highly-advanced smooth infield actions and showed all the tools to stick at shortstop moving forward. Otero plays light on his feet, moves with fluidity and plays through the baseball in rhythm. He looks natural on the move with a quick glove-to-hand release and the ability to throw from multiple slots. He also showed an advanced double play turn with feel and quick release. Zebrauskas is a switch-hitting middle infielder with a line-drive oriented approach at the plate and should be able to stick up the middle defensively. On the infield Zebrauskas plays fast with active bouncy feet and a strong arm, that although it plays from a low slot, showed carry and accuracy across the diamond at 77 mph; tops of the event. Zebrauskas is an athletic 2025 infielder to follow moving forward.
Pancho Vazquez (Mount Carmel, 2026) was a clear standout behind the plate. The 2026 had some of the best catcher actions of the event; athletic, clean and quick out of the crouch with soft hands and a traditional catcher's arm action; short and loose from an over-the-top slot. Vazquez was routinely around the second base bag and recorded the low pop time of the event at 2.14.
There were a number of others who showed well and will be mentioned in a few weeks when we release the scouting reports from the event.
