Future Games Trials - Quick Hits 3.0

We're now two weeks out from the Future Game Trials and I feel we still haven't entirely touched on all the standouts we had in attendance at the Athlete Matrix, home of the Ontario Blue Jays. 

As players prepare to move outdoors and we continue to creep ever closer to the summer and warm weather, this Future Games Trials event was imperative as we continue to narrow down and begin to look at what our Canadian Future Games squad might look like. 

We had some of the top uncommitted 2024 and 2025s in the province in attendance and below, I provide some notes on the standouts. 

2024 SS/3B Veer Wadhwani -  Wadhwani immediately looked stronger than we've seen in the past at 6-foot, 180-pounds. He stood out on the infield with the best arm on the day (86 mph) and he moved well with good actions. Participant on last summer's Jr. Future Games Team who has a very well rounded game right now. 

2024 SS/C Carter Aarts - Aarts has size with an athletic frame of 6-foot-2, 180-pounds and put up good numbers across the board. The right-handed bat is what impressed most. It's a strong, clean stroke that produced consistent EV's in the 90s, top 94 (2nd best at event). His catcher velo of 77 mph led the event, while his 2.03 pop-time was 2nd best and his 82  mph arm was 5th best on the infield. 

2024 RHP/OF Owen Slater - Slater, a 6-foot-3, 165-pound two-way player, was his usual self on the mound, sitting 83-84 with the fastball and showcasing a good three-pitch mix. The surprise on the day from Slater came with the right-handed bat that produced some loud swings and one of the best rounds of the day. His average exit velocity of 89.3 mph was second best at the event.

2024 OF/RHP Trevor Mulder - We first got a look at Mulder in the outfield portion of the day where he worked up to 90 mph. With the velocity and arm action, our staff was excited to see how it would translate to the mound. He sat 81-82 (T 82.7) and with his 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame, he'll be an arm to follow going forward in the Windsor Selects program. 

2024 C Preston Vieira - Veiera continues to find himself in the top tier of catchers at every event he attends. The Oshawa catcher has a quick catch and release, coupled with a quick arm. Although he's a little undersized at 5-foot-9, 155-pounds, he continues to hit the ball hard as shown by his top exit velocity of 90 mph.

2024 RHP Makaio Cisneros - Cisneros continue to impress early on in 2022, fresh of his updated ranking of No. 6 in the province. Cisneros fastball sat 85-87 (T87.5) and he continues to show feel for his offspeed stuff. Still plenty of refining to do for the athletic 6-foot-1, 165-pound right-hander but there's a ton to work with. 

2024 INF/OF Christos Tassopoulos - Tassopoulos is another name that continues to get better every time we see him out. An athletic left-handed hitter from Team Ontario with a projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 182-pounds. Produced a top exit velocity of 92 mph. Still needs to find where he fits in defensively but he continues to make the necessary adjustments to help take his game to the next level.

2024 RHP Alex Uher - Uher was one of the arms our staff was most excited to see and he didn't disappoint. At 5-foot-9, 150-pounds there's still plenty of growing to come in his game but he continues to work with a firm fastball at 85-86, T87.5 mph. The fastball produced one of the top spin scores (28) thanks to an average FB spin rate of 2345rpm.

2024 LHP Ethan LaPointe - 6-foot-5, 195-pound left-hander's will always catch your attention, especially when they're sitting 85-86 mph (T86.7) with the fastball. Still looks to be a little raw with the movements on the mound but there's so much to like with the size and arm. Projectable arm who you can expect to continue to gaining velocity as he develops on the mound.

2024 RHP Zev Salsberg - Salsberg is a projectable 6-foot-1, 163-pound right-hander from the Ontario Royals who worked downhill with a fastball that sat 85-86 mph (T86.7). His slider had some of the best spin at the event, although his arm slot really drops when throwing the pitch. Another exciting 2024 arm to keeps tabs on this summer. 

2024 LHP Luca Alagheband - Although Alagheband's fastball velocity may not have been as loud as some of these other names, his TrackMan data graded him out as having some of the best stuff at the event. The Terriers left-hander sat 82-83 mph (T83.7) with the fastball, along with an average spin rate of 2549rpm which is well above the major league average. 6-foot-3, 195-pound left-hander with an impressive arsenal, also flashing a high spin, high HM slider and a high HM changeup.
