2020 Future Games: Team TN Left Handed Pitchers
November 28, 2020
The 2020 PBR Future Games was a major success for the Team Tennessee squad as over 400 of the best uncommitted prospects competed at the Lakepoint Sports Complex. With a loaded roster and big time performances throughout the weekend, the team has had eleven players commit over the past few months and more on the horizon. Next, we'll breakdown the 4 left handed pitchers that donned the orange and gray at PBR Future Games.

Andrew Behnke, LHP, Donelson Christian, 2022
Uncommitted; 5-foot-9, 175-pound twitchy southpaw with slim, high-waisted frame. Good athlete with springy feet in the OF, but future is on the bump. Short, compact arm action with good quickness and repeatability in delivery. FB sits 84-87, T88 with great spin (Max: 2527 rpm at FG; sitting 2100-2400s rpm via Trackman). Throws a tight breaking ball at 70-75, manipulating CB/SL shape and speed. Throws it to both sides and spun it 2100-2300s rpm, topping 2457 rpm (via Trackman) at PBR Future Games. Draws a lot of swing n’ miss with the high spin capacity, and remains the top uncommitted lefty arm in the 22’ class.
Christian Lim, LHP, Montgomery Bell Academy, 2023
5-foot-10, 170-pound southpaw tossed two quick innings in his start against Missouri. Slim, lean frame with good athleticism and slight projection. True three pitch mix with significant late movement on all three. Attacks the zone, pitching with a plan and intent. Simple, repeatable delivery from hybrid stretch with controlled sequencing. Quick arm working up to 3/4 slot. FB sat 83-86 (2137-2291 rpm per Trackman) with laminar express arm side action, diving away from RHH. Commanded to both sides of the plate, filling up the zone and missing barrels. 1/7 action CB at 67-69 (1815-1968 rpm) with good bite and shape, flashes of being S/M offering. Rounded out with deceptive CH at 72-74 with arm aide action and depth. Feel for the zone and creates a difficult tunnel for hitters off the running FB. An impressive young arm with some polish, who checks a lot of boxes. Committed to Stanford shortly after the event.
Luke Payne, LHP Goodpasture, 2023
6-foot-2, 170-pound left-hander has a long lanky frame with great projection. Payne picked up with Team Select after a weather delay tossing two innings. Feel and rhythm in delivery with long, loose arm working up to H 3/4 slot. Low effort with high ceiling as he fills out his frame. FB sat 83-85 which came out the hand clean and jumped on hitters. Good life with slight arm side action while manipulating shape between 2/4-Seam. Mixed a 12/6 CB at 66-67 with great depth, freezing hitters. Threw it for strikes and commanded down in the zone. Occasionally mixed CH at 76-79 with decent fade as third offering. Committed to Tennessee shortly after Future Games.
Cole Torbett, LHP, Science Hill, 2023
5-foot-10, 170-pound southpaw is about as consistent as the come. Average, lean frame with some projection and great athleticism. Torbett tossed two frames against Kentucky, surrendering one run while punching out two. Quiet, repeatable delivery with good pace. Quick arm that works up to 3/4 slot. Comfortably mixes three pitches and will throw in various counts. FB worked 81-84, T85 with good life (2058-2280 rpm early) and some arm side action. Spins it well enough to beat barrels, but can also manipulate action for sink at 1872-1985 rpm per Trackman. Best secondary is 1/7 action CB in the low 70s with decent bite. Attacks the zone with it and can bury for chase. It’s not a wipe out offering at this point, but uses it efficiently to work counts and his potential to develop into more superior pitch. Rounds arsenal with low-mid 70s CH with good deception and fade. Disguises well off the FB with similar spin axis, and neutralizing offering to RHH. Positionally, projects as a corner outfielder contributor, who can run and handle the stick from the left side. Looks to be a collegiate two-way prospect after committing to MTSU shortly at Future Games.
