Goodpasture is as deep as a club as any in the state, and the fact that the Tennessee commit can be a district reliever/third starter is a huge luxury. They have a pair of senior college commit arms (Connor Martin & Jonah Smithson), but Payne's long lanky frame provides plenty of uncomfortable at bats. He's shown a FB up to 90 and some feel for his secondary offerings, but he's got to be more consistent in the zone. Another year under his belt should help clean some of that and he'll certainly play a key role in helping Goodpasture hit their goals this season.

6-foot-2, 170-pound left-hander has a long lanky frame with great projection. Payne picked up with Team Select after a weather delay tossing two innings. Feel and rhythm in delivery with long, loose arm working up to H 3/4 slot. Low effort with high ceiling as he fills out his frame. FB sat 83-85 which came out the hand clean and jumped on hitters. Good life with slight arm side action while manipulating shape between 2/4-Seam. Mixed a 12/6 CB at 66-67 with great depth, freezing hitters. Threw it for strikes and commanded down in the zone. Occasionally mixed CH at 76-79 with decent fade as third offering. Committed to Tennessee shortly after Future Games.

The 6-foot-2, 167-pound southpaw stole the show in his relief appearance. Tall, high-waisted frame with plenty of room for growth. Simple, repeatable delivery. Quick arm that works up to high 3/4 slot and leverage well with lower half. FB worked 82-85 with good life and ride through the zone. Flashed a few knee buckling 12/6 CBs at 66-68 and occasionally mixed CH at 75-76.
