PA 2024 Rankings Update
December 1, 2022
As the fall comes to a close with a completed 2022 outdoor season, our staff sat down for a modest update to the 2024 class rankings. One of the deeper groups of pitching in recent memory is bolstered with power arms, front-lined by 1B/LHP Tague Davis (Malvern Prep) and RHP Tegan Kuhns (Chambersburg).
Some shuffling occurred inside the Top 10, as SS Jeff Lougee (Mechanicsburg) was crowned 5th overall along with a new face debuting at #10, RHP Nate Whysong (Chestnut Ridge). Multiple upside names remain on the fringe such as RHP Troy Dressler (Mifflinburg) and LHP Logan Harelson (Hempfield), while C Anderson French (Red Land) is a bat seasoned enough to make the leap.

Tague Davis 1B / LHP / Malvern Prep, PA / 2024The country-strong 6-foot-3, 210-pounder displays a quiet demeanor with freakish power and lower effort in the movements. Equally impressive on both sides of the ball (L/L), the southpaw held 88-90 mph during a 1-2-3 inning at the Area Code Games, reaching back for an 3000+rpms CB in front of Vice President of Scouting, Shooter Hunt. Tegan Kuhns RHP / SS / Chambersburg, PA / 2024A wiry, athletic frame screams projection at 6-foot-3, 165lbs, attacking with riding life into the low-90’s. There’s a legitimate feel for three pitches, manipulating tilt on a hard-thrown breaking-ball around 3000+rpms. Likes to change eye level and has shown flashes of strikeout potential in the delivery/arm-swing combo. Tennessee commit |

Cade Oleary RHP / 3B / Pittsburgh Central Catholic, PA / 2024One of the summer’s biggest risers, OLeary broke out at the PBR Future Games with a tall, lengthy 6-foot-4, 175lb build that located to the arm-side of the plate. There’s plenty of balance down the mound on an 88-90 mph FB (2316), which can appear quicker due to extension. Dodged barrels early in counts and landed an 11/5, 75-77 mph CB with finishing ability, 3K. Mississippi State commit

Owen Yarussi LHP / OF / Seneca Valley, PA / 2024It’s still a smooth and easy operation at 6-foot, 173lbs, as the strength is starting to trend upwards. The lefty sits more in the mid-to-upper 80’s (2500+) with a wipeout slider that sweeps laterally across the zone. Very effective vs. right-handed hitters, using any of his four pitches for strikes, including a fading CH with depth. Auburn commit |

Jeff Lougee SS / 2B / Mechanicsburg, PA / 2024Fresh off of a spring where he ranked 3rd in the Mid-Penn in batting average (.484), Lougee has proven to be a tough out (LHH) with impactful barrel skills. The muscular 6-foot, 175-pounder commands sneaky power in the frame and twitchy actions that can handle top-end velocity. There’s a chance to stick long term at shortstop with rangy footwork across the dirt. Duke commit

Luke Costello 3B / RHP / Cathedral Prep, PA / 2024The two-sport athlete finished up a strong football season as Cathedral Prep’s QB1, passing for 15 TD and only 3 INT. Now 6-foot-2, 200lbs, Costello translates that same physicality to the box with an aggressive, rotational approach. The imposing RHH has hit everywhere he goes and recently posted a T97 mph exit velocity at the Northeast Procase. Wake Forest commit

Kross Howarth 3B / RHP / Methacton , PA / 2024A metrics darling with a ceiling to dream on at 6-foot-4, 195lbs, Howarth creates leverage and advanced barrel-whip in the box for a T99 mph exit velocity. Took another step forward at PA Shockers Scout Day with an improved front side, up to 90 mph (2500+) from a loose H ¾ slot. Also spins a two-plane breaker at 17 inch HM. Tulane commit

Dawson Smail OF / 1B / Clarion Area, PA / 2024Continuing to round into form physically with an athletic 6-foot-1, 180lb build, Smail keeps the barrel through the zone and commands the body for full plate coverage. We’re starting to see more of an XBH type of intent, as measurables have risen over the past year’s time (T94 mph EV). Has delivered against some of the best competition on the national stage. Erick Diaz OF / 2B / Perkiomen , PA / 2024The switch-hitter hones some exciting tools in a strong, packaged-up 5-foot-10, 180lb frame. More comfortable from the left side, as he stays grounded with torque in the hips for an extra-base hit approach towards the RCF gap (93 mph EV). Flashes quality reads in the outfield using a quick first-step and natural instincts in space; 6.83 runner. Uncommitted

Nate Whysong RHP / SS / Chestnut Ridge, PA / 2024Rankings StateRank: 10 / POS: 3
On a similar trajectory as Blake Morningstar as the next big Central PA arm, the 6-foot-3, 170-pounder went toe-to-toe with state-champion Central Martinsburg earlier this spring. The uber-projectable righty has since bumped up to 91 mph (2341) on a FB that takes off out of the hand, pairing a commanded, mid-70’s CB/SL mix and developing CH. Wake Forest commit
