Elite Prospect Showcase Analysis: Class of 2018 Corner Infielders

The 2015 Elite Prospect Showcase took place Saturday, November 7th at Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim, PA with 75 prospects from four states displaying their skills. Today we continue our analysis of all prospects in attendance by reviewing infielders in the class of 2018.

Highly-regarded Hempfield Area third baseman Justin Wright posted his best across-the-board measureables at an event this year (7.11 60-yard dash, 93-mph exit velocity, 81-mph arm strength). The right-handed hitter has an easy, simple stroke with minimal head and body movement, his hands work through contact, and he hits against his front side. Appears to have raised his launch point, allowing him to stay shorter into the zone and create more consistent backspin. Defensively, he exhibits good feet and hands and the ability to make plays on the move.


Andrew Brady, 3B/RHP, Avon Grove
6-foot-3, 160-pound left-handed hitter. Starts from a slightly open stance and strides to square. Drifts into front side a bit, but has a simple, inside-out approach. 81-mph exit velocity and already solid barrel control should only improve as he adds strength to his frame. Ran a 7.15 60-yard dash. Defensively, he exhibited solid actions, worked below the baseball, and showed accurate 77-mph arm strength across the diamond.

Aidan Frye, RHP/3B, Springside Chestnut Hill
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter. Primary pitcher who starts from an open stance and strides to square. Holds hands in close to body and hides them behind his head a bit in load, which creates some length in his swing, but he also flashes some bat speed (85-mph exit velocity). Ran a 7.33 60-yard dash. Defensively, he doesn't have the quickest feet, but showed a smooth exchange and quick one-shuffle release with 79-mph arm strength across the diamond.

Joe LaFiora, 1B/LHP, Neumann-Goretti
5-foot-10, 195-pound left-handed hitter who has improved his physique since we last saw him. Starts from a square stance, rocks weight to backside with knee-to-knee stride, and lands slightly closed. Keeps head still and stays under control throughout swing. Has a chance to drive the baseball (87-mph exit velocity). Defensively, he moved well and showed a soft glove hand with 75-mph arm strength.

Ryan Miller, RHP/3B, Fleetwood Area
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitter. Starts from an upright, slightly open stance and takes a long stride, remaining slightly open. Uphill path would benefit from staying through the contact zone longer, although he consistently barreled the baseball during his BP round. Ran a 7.44 60-yard dash and posted an 80-mph exit velocity. Defensively, he showed a clean, quick arm that generated 82-mph arm strength across the diamond.

Jonathan Moldoff, 3B/RHP, Westtown School
6-foot-1, 180-pound left-handed hitter. Starts from an open stance and strides to a square, wide base. Body travels with stride and weight gets into front side early, inhibiting ability to incorporate lower half. Uphill path would benefit from keeping bat in the contact zone longer. Posted a 78-mph exit velocity and 76-mph arm strength across the diamond.

Brandon Smith, 1B, Wilson Area
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitter. Hit from a slightly open stance with an uphill swing path. Initiates swing with front side and lead shoulder, which creates some length in his stroke. Ball came off bat well toward oppo gap and he posted an 80-mph exit velocity. Defensively, he showed solid actions coupled with 73-mph arm strength.
