ontario insider: Ontario Prospects off To Arizona
As we bare the cold conditions here throughout Ontario in which January and the New Year brings, we still have prospects and uncommitted talent who will be taking to the field this week in Arizona as it’s another reminder that spring and baseball is right around the corner, no matter how cold it gets.
This week see’s a handful of players from the Ontario region take their talents to sunny Arizona for the MLK Championship in Phoenix from the 12-15. A lot of these players will be on the DBacks Langley Blaze Team which consists of two teams with an underclass and senior team in their respective divisions.
Below we take a look at the players who will be in attendance with some information and background reports.

Jamal Armstrong OF / SS / Richview Collegiate, ON / 2019
Team: Milwaukee Brewers Underclass Scout Team Report: Armstrong can play both infield and outfield while displaying athletic actions and a clean arm that shows strength and carry. 5-foot-10, 165-pound with room to carry more size, offensively is gap to gap at the moment, shows bat speed and some whip with the barrel, has tools to work with as he continues to develop.

Bryce Arnold SS / 2B / Blessed Trinity, ON / 2020
Team: Dbacks Langley Blaze Report: Middle infielder with quick twitch actions. Ranked 5th in Ontario’s 2020 class, short swing that generates well to contact, above average defender in the middle with loose arm, soft hands while staying under control with his body. Fun to watch.

Noah Case 3B / 2B / Richview CI, ON / 2019
Team: Dbacks Langley Blaze Report: One of the top prospects in Ontario from 2019 class. Pure hitter with lots of barrels, sprays the ball with power to big part of field, moves the barrel around the zone and produces lots of hard contact. Solid defender at third, clean actions, can improve first step quickness, will be interesting to see early in the year where Case is at.
Team: Dbacks Langley Blaze Report: Right-hander that works with tempo and controlled delivery. Strike thrower who mixes in curveball and cutter to repertoire. Works in the low 80’s with heater and keeps hitters off balance using all three pitches.
Mason Dobie SS / 2B / Georgian Bay Community School, ON / 2020
Team: Dbacks Langley Blaze Report: Young middle infielder with feel and approach at the plate, showed soft hands in the middle with good actions and clean arm across the diamond. Bat plays from left side, works the middle of the diamond and added strength gains will be huge for him. Very interesting player who is developing into a prospect to watch.

Kenny Di Clemente OF / 3B / St. Thomas aquinas, ON / 2019
Team: Dbacks Langley Blaze Report: Finished off with strong campaign at Fieldhouse Scout Day. Athletic with speed as he ran a 6.75 sixty. Quick hands at the plate and sprayed line drives in the cage. Moves well defensively and can play both infield and outfield. Interesting player with tools to work and grow on.
Team: Dbacks Langley Blaze Report: Kauffeldt is a left-handed bat that can run and play solid defense in the outfield. Moves the barrel around the zone with a line drive approach. Had a breakout 2017 as a member of the Ontario Youth Team and playing for club team in Oshawa. Room to grow and add strength, look for him to keep developing and improving.

Matthew Nolin LHP / Cawthra Park Secondary School, ON / 2019
Team: Dbacks Langley Blaze Report: 6-foot-3 lefty with easy arm action and plenty of upside. Low 80’s guy with much more in the tank, flashed feel for secondary stuff and changeup backed up nicely off his heater. Moves well on the mound, one of our picks for a breakout 2018 season.
Team: Dbacks Langley Blaze Report: Lean frame with room to pack on more at 6-foot, 160-pounds. Can catch and throw as hands work well behind the dish with clean transfer. Left-handed bat with a balanced setup in the box, added strength will be huge as he matures, one to watch as there are tools there.
Noah London OF / OF / Father Leo Austin Catholic, ON / 2018
Team: Dbacks Langley Blaze Report: Athletic outfielder who has competed handful of times in Arizona with team. Above average defender with arm strength quickness. Quiet, easy stroke from right-side, line drive guy who looks to stay big part of the field. Can wreak havoc on bases, continues to keep getting better every time we see him.
Spencer Todd C / OF / Massey, ON / 2019
Team: Dbacks Langley Blaze Report: Todd is out of Windsor with strong frame that profiles behind the dish. Arm strength that he has shown from the crouch and from outfield. He ended off the fall with a strong showing in Jupiter and looks to start off the new year in the same fashion. Gap to gap guy at the plate who does a lot of things right.
