Future Games: Pitching Recap
August 6, 2021
The Future Games is one-of-a-kind event that features the best uncommitted 2023-2024 prospects from our 40-plus state coverage area and Canada with over 300 college coaches attending the premier recruiting event of the summer. Players in attendance received maximum visibility from college coaches all over the country, in addition to being promoted through the Prep Baseball Report multimedia platforms.
The Nevada group has featured an exciting group prospects in each of its two previous year attending the event including 2021 MLB Draft Picks: Tanner McDougal (5th Rd., Chicago White Sox), Jace Avina (14th Rd., Milwaukee Brewers) and Elie Kligman (20th Rd., Washington Nationals). In a couple years, we may be looking back at this group and see a similar fate as this may have been then deepest group to represent the Silver State at the Future Games.
In the three games played, Team Nevada proved they belonged after posting 11 hits with seven runs crossing the plate behind a quality start from 2023, Seth Graham-Pippin, and scoreless relief appearances by fellow 2023's, Kody Bialas and Gunnar Myro. Game 2 vs. Pacific Northwest was highlighted by 2023, Kaden Soder's eight strike performance over his four innings of work, almost completing an immaculate inning as he struck out three batters in just ten pitches. Game 3 vs. Arizona the bats came back to life as 2023's, Gunnar Myro, Ty Silva and Brandon Swanson, all racking up multiple hits with Nevada's top ranked 2024, Ty Southisene, being a catalyst from the team at the top of the order with three quality at bats including a single laced back up the middle to start the game.
Today, we highlight the standout pitching performances from each game of the 2021 PBR Future Games.

Seth Graham Pippin - Desert Oasis / 2023
Pippin is one of the few returning arms for Team Nevada at the 2021 PBR Future Games and his work over the past year earned him the starting spot in Game 1 vs. California. He made the most out of his three innings of work allowing only one run, striking out three while inducing weak contact and ulitzing his defense for the remainder of his outs. His loose, 3/4 to high 3/4 slot helped him create some downhill on his fastball that topped out at 86.66 mph via TrackMan, commanding it in the zone with secondary stuff coming working effectively off a similar plane. His curveball features late, tight action at 72-75 mph showing confidence in it especially after getting ahead in the count and proved as an effective strike out pitch. The developing changeup showed promise has his arm speed is now beginning to mirror the speed of when he throws his fastball with the looseness creating some sink and fade action at 79-80 mph. SPG is one of the more interesting arms in Nevada's 2023 class with his game continuing to trend positively on the mound with his stock also on the rise after his performance last week.

Kody Bialas - Palo Verde / 2023
The primary infielder posted arguably the best outing of the event as he struck out four batters over his scoreless three innings of work. His three pitch mix proved effective against a stacked California group with his fastball being his primary pitch to attack early and often with, running it up to 86.77 mph via TrackMan while sitting 84-86 mph. His breaking ball showed quality 11/5 shape with similar arm speed and plane as his fastball. His changeup worked mostly as a show pitch ahead in the count, but flashes promise as a potential quality pitch down the road. With this performance, Bialas solidified himself as a potential two-way prospect at the next level as he only seems to be scratching the surface of what he is capable of on the mound, relying heavily on his athleticism and projects to polish his delivery and mix over the next few years.

Kaden Soder - Bishop Gorman / 2023
Soder put himself on more than a few radars after his stellar performance for Team Nevada at the 2021 PBR Future Games. Once he got settled in, he showed why he should be considered among to most effective pitchers in the state as he produced eight strikeouts with his effective curveball/slider mix with a Spin Rate Range of 2659-2832 RPM that kept a potent Pacific Northwest lineup off balance. Though his fastball topped out at 83 mph via TrackMan, his present pitchability is what jumps off the page with the advanced command of his secondary pitches and projectable frame that currently stands at 6-foot-1, 155 pound. His fastball velocity is expected to parallel his physical development over the next few years and his stock should should also mirror that positive trend. Keep an eye on Soder as he just now begins to come into his own on the mound, already having a successful summer for GBG Vegas and we expect him to have his breakout season this Spring for Bishop Gorman.

Game 3 vs. Arizona
_______________________________________________________________
Spencer Hatch - Faith Lutheran / 2023
The lone southpaw in the Team Nevada rotation, Hatch got the start in Game 3 vs. Arizona where he when three complete, allowing one earned run while striking out three. His clean, low effort delivery helps create deception in his three pitch mix from his high 3/4 slot. Hatch's ability to work out of jams after defensive miscues and get his team in the dugout was extremely impressive, especially against a stacked Arizona group. His fastball topped out at 83.92 mph via TrackMan, sitting 81-83 mph with some arm side life that was also present on his changeup that showed some fade as well. The two-sport athlete is expected to be at or near the very top of the Faith Lutheran rotation this Spring and will play a key roll in the success of Crusaders in the 2022 season.

Callan Scolari - Bishop Manogue / 2023
Scolari showed his ability to bounce back after getting rained out of his scheduled start in Game 2 vs. Pacific Northwest as he transitioned to a bullpen roll in Game 3 vs. Arizona. His confidence never wavered, working through three complete innings, allowing only three hit and one earned run while striking out two in the process. His mostly fastball/breaking ball mix proved effective as his fastball sat 82-84 mph, topping out at 85.23 mph via TrackMan with a breaking ball that showed some sweeping action as well as some late, cut action, both routinely missing barrels and inducing weak contact to keep his defense involved. His short, quick arm cycle helps him conceal his pitches with a repeated high 3/4 slot. The projectability of his lean, 6-foot-3 frame with long levers makes him a very interesting follow out of Bishop Manogue with more velocity expected to come as he adds strength and size.
