St. Louis Prospects Scout Day: Pitchers Analysis

On Sunday, September 23, Prep Baseball Report - Missouri held the St. Louis Prospects Scout Day at St. Louis University.  Over thirty players from the Prospects program attended in the 2022-2019 class. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the pitchers from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.


Pitchers

Sam Altobella 3B / RHP / Vianney, MO / 2020

Altobella has a strong and athletic 6-foot 185-pound build.  He is a right handed pitcher in the 2020 Missouri class. On the mound, he has an athletic and connected delivery with a good over the top arm action.  Slight rotation at balance point in hips, fastball has late two-seam action, 81-85 mph, 11-to-5 breaking ball with tight break late for strikes at 70-72 mph.  He throws his change up at 73-75 mph, near fastball arm speed.

Jericho Badwan LHP / OF / Fort Zumwalt West , MO / 2021

Badwan is a lean 5-foot-10 165-pound left handed pitcher in Missouri's 2021 class. On the mound, Badwan showed control with three pitches.  stays in line down the mound, level shoulders, high three quarters release, throws with regular effort and fluid tempo, fastball works mostly 74-75 mph, will work glove side and throws for a strike, breaking ball has 1-to-7 shape, at 65-68 mph, has feel with gradual break, will be a good pitch as he continues to develop, change up at 70-72 mph, throws for a strike, slight run with fastball arm speed.

Daniel Burns RHP / OF / O'Fallon, IL / 2020

Burns is a 6-foot-1 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Illinois 2020 class.  On the mound, Burns comes from an over the top arm slot, controlled and smooth tempo, accelerates in line down the mound, short takaway, repeats delivery, slight hip rotation at balance point, works downhill, fastball works 79-82 mph, mostly down in zone, breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape, sharp at times, 65-69 mph, lands for strikes, throws change up with near fastball arm speed, 71-74 mph, down in zone. 

Cylis Cox LHP / 1B / Staunton, IL / 2021

Cylis Cox is a well built 6-foot-1 195-pound left-handed pitcher in Illinois 2021 class.  On the mound, Cox works from a high three quarters arm slot, works in line down the mound with a smooth tempo, fastball worked mostly 80-82 mph, slight arm side run, breaking ball has depth with 1-to-7 shape, commands for a strike, change up at 73-74 mph, arm side run, throws with near fastball arm speed.  

Adam Ebling SS / 2B / Westminster, MO / 2021

Ebling is a strong and athletic 5-foot-11 173-pound right pitcher in the Missouri 2021 class.  On the mound, Ebling has a projectable pitcher's build.  An easy and athletic delivery coming across his body getting his fastball up to 83 mph.  He compliments his fastball with a 12-6 curveball with some depth at 63-67 mph and a 72-74 mph changeup.

Tyler Kotsis SS / RHP / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2020

Kotsis is a thick and strong 5-foot-10 200-pound right handed pitcher in the 2020 Missouri class. On the mound, he has a smooth and compact delivery throwing a fastball at 80-83 mph with some arm side run.  He compliments his fastball with three different off speed pitches that he throws for strikes, a changeup, curveball, and knucklecurve.  The changeup comes in at 66-69 mph with same arm action as fastball.  The curveball has good 12-6 depth at 66-69 mph, the knucklecurve is harder and sharper at 65-71 mph with 1-7 movement.

Sam Murray 2B / SS / Lafayette, MO / 2021

Murray is a slim 6-foot 143-pound right handed pitcher in the 2021 Missouri class. On the infield, Murray has a good exchange with long arm action and a low three quarters release getting his velocity up to 74 mph.  On the mound, Murray is a strike thrower.  He has a smooth and controlled delivery with a fastball at 72-74 mph.  He mixes in a changeup at 66-67 mph with good sink and a curveball at 64-66 mph with a 2-8 gradual break.

Brennan Orf 3B / OF / Westminster , MO / 2020

Orf is a strong and athletic 6-foot-4 210-pound left handed hitting third baseman and outfielder and right handed pitcher in the 2020 Missouri class. On the mound, he has a slow and controlled down hill delivery throwing fastballs at 78-82 mph.  He compliments his fastball with a 12-6 curveball that is sharp at times and a changeup with some arm side run.

Tanner Perry SS / RHP / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2021

Perry is a lean 6-foot 155-pound right handed hitting shortstop, outfielder and right handed pitcher in the Missouri 2021 class. On the mound, Perry has a fluid and smooth delivery and a high three quarters release throwing fastballs at 73-76 mph.  He mixes in a changeup at 63-67 mph and a 12-6 curveball with some depth at 57-60 mph.

Mason Rice OF / RHP / Liberty - Wentzville, MO / 2019

Rice is a 5-foot-10 155-pound right handed pitcher in the 2019 Missouri class. On the mound, Rice is a strike thrower with a quick tempo delivery, falls off to his glove side.  He has a fastball at 70-71 mph, a 1-7 curveball at 64-69 mph and has good feel on his change up with sink at 65-68 mph.  

Alex Vohsen 1B / LHP / Christian Brothers College, MO / 2020

Vohsen is a big and strong 6-foot-3 220-pound left handed pitcher in Missouri's 2020 class. On the mound, Vohsen is slow and controlled through his motion, and a long arm action reaching down before coming forward and ends with a violent leg kick at the end.  He throws a fastball with cut action at 72-74 mph.  He throws a curveball at 66-70 mph, and a cutter with good arm speed at 68-70 mph.

Connor Wehmeier 3B / RHP / Orchard Farm, MO / 2020

Wehmeier is a strong and put together 5-foot-10 190-pound right handed pitcher in the 2020 Missouri class. On the mound, he works down hill with an over the top release point and falls off to his glove side.  He has a fastball at 80-82 mph, a good 12-6 curveball at 71-73 mph and a cutter with similar action to his fastball at 79-80 mph.
