St. Louis Prospects Scout Day: Infielders Analysis

On Sunday, September 23, Prep Baseball Report - Missouri held the St. Louis Prospects Scout Day at St. Louis University. Over thirty players from the Prospects program attended in the 2022-2019 class.

Today will take a closer look at the infielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.
Infielders
Sam Altobella 3B / RHP / Vianney, MO / 2020Altobella has a strong and athletic 6-foot 185-pound build. He is a right handed hitting third baseman and pitcher in the 2020 Missouri class. He ran a 7.48 60 yard dash and a 4.97 home to first. At the plate, he has a strong lower half, starting open. Loose and quick hands with a middle to pull approach with good bat speed producing occasional power to pull side. On the infield, Altobella has soft hands with smooth footwork working through the ball toward first base. Shows a good three quarter arm action, getting his velocity up to 85 mph across the diamond. |
Jack Bryan C / RHP / Francis Howell, MO / 2022Bryan is a lean 5-foot-11 130-pound right handed hitting catcher, infielder, and pitcher in the 2022 Missouri class. Bryan runs a 7.23 60 and a 4.63 home to first. At the plate, Bryan has a square upright stance with a flat bat. He has a quick load with his hands and stays on a flat plain to the ball hitting line drive to the middle of the field with an 80 mph exit velocity. On the infield, Bryan has an over the top arm angle getting his throws getting up to 75 mph across the diamond. Behind the plate, Bryan has good footwork gaining ground toward second base and good catch and throw transfer, getting up to 69 mph. |
Cole Buckner 1B / RHP / Gibualt Catholic , IL / 2020Buckner is a sturdy 6-foot-1 208-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Illinois 2020 class. He ran a 8.38 60 and a 5.18 home to first. At the plate, Buckner has an 86 mph exit velocity, shows power to pull side, starts in a thin and slightly open stance, leg kick, aggressive swing with quick bat speed, light lift after contact, no wasted movement to load, mostly loud contact during hitting evaluations. Ont he infield, 74 mph positional velocity, smooth and controlled actions, clean exchange, high three quarters release, mostly accurate throws. |
Adam Ebling SS / 2B / Westminster, MO / 2021Ebling is a strong and athletic 5-foot-11 173-pound right handed hitting infielder and pitcher in the Missouri 2021 class. Offensively, balanced and square stance with a short and simple load and gets out on his front food and good extension with a gap to gap approach. 84 mph exit velocity. Defensively, Ebling is very smooth. Good footwork and soft hands with a clean exchange. Long arm action finishing toward his target getting up to 81 mph across the diamond. |
Tyler Kotsis SS / RHP / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2020Kotsis is a thick and strong 5-foot-10 200-pound right handed hitting shortstop and right handed pitcher in the 2020 Missouri class. He runs a 7.25 60 and a 4.62 home to first. At the plate, Kotsis is explosive off of the bat, getting his exit velocity up to 91 mph. He has an athletic set up with a bat wiggle to get to his power position. He has a pull side approach by opening up his front side and has a slightly uphill bat path. On the infield, he is loose and moves well for his size, has good arm action with a high three quarters release point, getting his velocity up to 83 mph across the diamond. |
Nick Krodinger SS / 2B / DeSoto , MO / 2021Krodinger is a lean 5-foot-11 160-pound right handed hitting middle infielder in the 2021 Missouri class. Krodinger runs a 7.95 60 and a 4.87 home to first. At the plate, he repeats a short and smooth load very well with a small knee to knee leg kick, stays inside the ball and hits consistent line drives with a gap to gap approach getting his exit velocity up to 84 mph. Krodinger is a plus infielder that has good footwork, working around the ball and getting his momentum going toward first base. He has good hands and has a good exchange making accurate throws at 74 mph. |
Garrett Laughlin SS / 2B / Troy Buchanan, MO / 2020Laughlin is a compact 5-foot-8 133-pound left handed hitting shortstop and right handed pitcher in Missouri's 2020 class. He runs a 7.46 60 and a 4.47 home to first. At the plate, he has a slightly open upright stance. He has loose hands and slightly drops them and adds a small leg kick. He consistently squares balls up hitting line drives gap to gap and flashing some power. Defensively, he has quick feet and works through the ball toward first base. He has a good exchange with a high three quarter arm slot with long arm action getting his velocity up to 77 mph across the diamond. |
Jack Matousek OF / 1B / Kirkwood, MO / 2021Matousek is a big and athletic 6-foot 180-pound left handed hitting outfielder and first baseman in the 2021 Missouri class. He ran a 7.28 60 and a 4.46 home to first. At the plate, Matousek has a square and athletic set up with his hands at his back shoulder and bat pointed up. He uses a quick toe tap and has a lot of movement going forward on his front leg with good bat speed, stays inside the ball well and has a middle to pull approach with an exite velocity of 86 mph. In the outfield, Matousek moves well with a good first step and works behind the ball to gain momentum to his target. He has a long over the top arm action and gets his velocity up to 72 mph. |
Sam Murray 2B / SS / Lafayette, MO / 2021Murray is a slim 6-foot 143-pound right handed hitting middle infielder and right handed pitcher in the 2021 Missouri class. He ran a 7.9 60 and a 4.91 home to first. At the plate, Murray has a slightly closed stance with smooth hands and a quiet load, quick and short movement back with his front foot. He has a pull side approach with occasional pop with exit velocity of 84 mph. On the infield, Murray has a good exchange with long arm action and a low three quarters release getting his velocity up to 74 mph. |
Jacob Noonan LHP / 1B / SLUH, MO / 2021Noonan is a big and athletic 6-foot-3 185-pound left handed hitting first baseman and left handed pitcher in the 2021 Missouri class. He ran a 7.65 60 and a 4.85 home to first. At the plate, Noonan starts slightly open and has a small leg kick gaining ground toward the pitcher with a slight dive closed. He has rhythm in his hands with a bat wiggle and makes consistent hard contact to the middle of the field at an exit velocity of 89 mph. Defensively, Noonan uses just his glove to field groundballs and fields them cleanly and gets his throws up to 74 mph. |
Brennan Orf 3B / OF / Westminster , MO / 2020Orf is a strong and athletic 6-foot-4 210-pound left handed hitting third baseman and outfielder and right handed pitcher in the 2020 Missouri class. Orf ran a 7.15 60 and a 4.40 home to first. At the plate, Orf has a square set up with his hands back starting in his power position. He has a minimal load and attacks the baseball with quick tempo and power to the middle and pull side, getting his exit velocity up to 89 mph. On the infield, he moves well for his size and has a long arm action with a three quarters release, throwing balls 80 mph across the diamond. |
Tanner Perry SS / RHP / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2021Perry is a lean 6-foot 155-pound right handed hitting shortstop, outfielder and right handed pitcher in the Missouri 2021 class. He ran a 8.0 60 and a 5.14 home to first. At the plate, Perry has square feet and uses a small leg kick and a minimal load with his hands. He uses good rhythm and timing to get extended and hit balls out in front with an exit velocity of 79 mph. On the infield, he has a glove pat and has a high three quarter release getting his throws to 75 mph across the diamond. |
Quince Venghaus SS / 2B / CBC, MO / 2021Venghaus is a 5-foot-8 167-pound right handed hitting middle infielder, outfielder and catcher in Missouri's 2021 class. He ran a 7.19 60 and a 4.58 home to first. At the plate, Venghaus starts slightly open and has good rhythm with his hands in his load to get to a power position. He gets around balls hitting to the pull side gap at an 80 mph exit velocity. On the infield, Venghaus has quick feet and soft hands with a clean exchange to go with a three quarters arm slot throwing balls 75 mph across the diamond. |
Alex Vohsen 1B / LHP / Christian Brothers College, MO / 2020Vohsen is a big and strong 6-foot-3 220-pound left handed hitting first baseman, outfielder and left handed pitcher in Missouri's 2020 class. He ran a 7.85 60 and a 4.83 home to first. At the plate, Vohsen has pop, hitting balls at 95 mph exit velocity. He starts with his feet close together and knees bent. He has a small leg kick that is smooth to go along with a smooth load with his hands and takes aggressive swings attacking the baseball to the middle of the field. In the outfield, Vohsen is clean with the glove, has a long arm action at a high three quarters release and a 76 mph velocity. At first base, he has good quick arm action when throwing to second and a long arm action when throwing across the diamond to third, with his throws hitting 77 mph. |
Connor Wehmeier 3B / RHP / Orchard Farm, MO / 2020Wehmeier is a strong and put together 5-foot-10 190-pound right handed hitting third baseman and right handed pitcher in the 2020 Missouri class. He ran a 7.7 60 and a 4.57 home to first. At the plate, Wehmeier was impressive. He has an slightly open and athletic set up and good rhythm in his hands to go with a small leg kick, gets off of his back side well and has a flat bat path. He had good pop, especially to the pull side, hitting balls at 88 mph. On the infield, he uses his feet to work around balls, gaining ground toward first base, soft hands and a clean exchange. He has an over the top release point and throws 80 mph across the diamond with good carry. |
Langston Williams 1B / RHP / Francis Howell Central , MO / 2021Williams is a 6-foot-1 203 pound right handed hitting outfielder and first baseman and right handed pitcher in the Missouri 2021 class. Williams ran a 7.67 60 and a 4.86 home to first. At the plate, he has a strong build and a simple approach with some pop, hitting balls at 87 mph exit velocity. He starts square and has minimal movement with his front foot and his hands and pulls his chest back on his finish, allowing his hands to get through the baseball. On the infield, he has a clean and quick exchange and a long arm action throwing balls 77 mph. |
Mark Zickrick 3B / OF / Lafayette, MO / 2021Zickrick is a lean 6-foot-2 175-pound switch hitting third baseman and outfielder in the 2021 Missouri class. He ran a 7.62 60, a 4.9 home to first from the right side and a 4.82 home to first from the left side. At the plate, he has a square set up and simple gap to gap approach from the right side and a simple opposite to middle of the field approach from the left side, consistently squaring balls up from both sides. His exit velocity is 83 mph from the left side and 84 mph from the right side. On the infield, he has a good transfer and calm feet. He makes throws across the diamond at 74 mph. |
