Wichita Winter Open Showcase: Pitcher Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas held the Wichita Winter Open Showcase at Hoover Field in Wichata, Kansas. Nearly fourty players participated in the 2022 to 2019 classes from around the area.
Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance.
Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on ScoutPlus.

Cole Askew SS / RHP / Seaman , KS / 20212/16/19 – Askew is an athletic 5-foot-9, 165-pound, right-handed pitching prospect in Kansas’ 2021 class out of Topeka Seaman HS. . On the mound, Askew has a simple delivery with regular effort, slightly crossfire with stride, accelerates down the mound, quick arm action with a high three quarter release, fastball is sneaky quick, 80-83 mph, cut action, thrown for strikes, changeup is 79-80 mph, down in the zone, curveball is 68-70 mph, 11-to-5 shape. |
Lucas Barnes OF / RHP / Arkansas City , KS / 20222/16/19 – Barnes is 6-foot, 145-pound, left-handed right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2022 class. On the mound, Barnes has a smooth and repeatable delivery, direction towards target, loose arm action, high three-quarter release, minimal effort, fastball is 73-75 mph, arm side run, occasional depth, thrown for a high percentage of strikes, change up 71-72 mph, near fastball arm speed, curveball is 63-67 mph, around the zone, 10-to-4 shape, late bite, showed a good feel for it in his bullpen. Barnes’ lanky frame, lean build and clean arm action have him being a prospect to look out for as he develops. |
Daniel Bebee C / SS / Shawnee Mission South, KS / 20202/16/19 – Bebee has a strong build and athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds. On the infield, Bebee showed his off his athleticism, fluid footwork, quick arm, momentum towards first base, positional velo of 84 mph, accurate throws. On the mound, Bebee has a fluid and rhythmic delivery, direction towards home plate, higher leg kick, clean arm action, high three-quarter release, accelerates down the mound. Fastball is 83-85 mph, will mix in a 2 seam as well, arm side run, changeup is near fastball armspeed, lowers arm slot, 76-78 mph with some sink, curveball is 69 mph, 12-to-6 shape, late bite, slider is 71-73 mph, 10-to-4 shape, gradual action, thrown for strikes. |
Phil Brennaman 3B / RHP / Oak Park, MO / 20202/16/19 – Brennaman has a strong build and solid frame at 6-foot, 180-pounds, and is a right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 recruiting class. On the mound, Brennaman shows a simple and repeatable delivery with some effort, high leg kick, accelerates down the mound, downhill tilt, clean arm action, high three-quarter release, fastball sits 84-87 mph, tops at 88 mph, thrown for a high percentage of strikes, curveball is 66-69 mph (at the event), gradual action, 11-to-5 type action, changeup is 69-73 mph (at the event), occasional arm side run and sink. |
Mitchael Casement C / 3B / Maize, KS / 20212/16/19 – Casement is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed pitching prospect in Kansas’ 2021 class. On the mound, Casement shows a simple delivery, strides across his body, repeats for the most part, clean arm action, over the top arm slot, accelerates down the mound, regular effort, minimal head movement and repeatable delivery, fastball is 74-77 mph, occasional cut, changeup is 57-61 mph with some cut, near fastball arm speed, breaking ball is 50-56, sharp bite at times, 12-to-6 action. |
Brady Cox OF / RHP / Hesston, KS / 20212/16/19 – Cox is a 5-foot-7, 150-pound, right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. On the mound, Cox has a smooth delivery with some effort, accelerates down the mound, over the top release, clean arm action, fastball sits 78-81, tops at 82 mph, occasional run, thrown for a high percentage of strikes, curveball is 60-63 mph, sharp downward action, 12-to-6 shape, chance to be a plus pitch, changeup is 67-69 mph, occasional cut, near fastball arm speed. |
Marshall Gilstrap RHP / SS / Maize South, KS / 20222/16/19 – Gilstrap has a slender build at 5-foot-10 and 130 pounds. He is a right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2022 class. On the mound, Gilstrap has a smooth delivery with some rhythm, uses a high glove side for added deception, high three-quarter release, clean arm action, throws with some effort, fastball is 65-70 mph, thrown for strikes, changeup is 64-65 mph, some depth / sink, curveball is 53-55 mph, gradual action, 11-to-5 shape. |
Seger Holman SS / 2B / Bishop Carroll, KS / 20202/16/19 – Holman is a long limbed and projectable 6-foot-3, 155-pound, right-handed pitching prospect in Kansas’ 2020 class. On the mound, Holman has a simple compact delivery, higher leg kick, hides the ball, downhill tilt, some rhythm, over the top release, fastball is 74-75 mph, occasional sink, will mix in a 2 seam for run as well as a cutter, curveball shows gradual action, 12-to-6 shape, 64 mph, changeup is 70-71 mph. |
Carson Jacobs RHP / OF / Thomas More Prep-Marian , KS / 20202/16/19 – Jacobs is a big bodied with a lean frame at 6-foot-6, 190-pounds and is a right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. One the mound, Jacobs establishes a presence with his frame, smooth delivery, downhill tilt, arms and legs coming at the hitter, accelerates down the mound, long arm action, high three-quarter release, fastball sat 80-82 mph, tops at 83 mph, commands it well at the bottom of the zone, late arm side run, curveball is 58-61 mph, sharp at times, 11-to-5 shape, split finger is 63-66 mph, thrown for strikes, downward tumbling action. |
Blake Millman LHP / OF / DeSoto, KS / 20202/16/19 – Blake Millman is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed pitching prospect in Kansas’ 2020 recruiting class. Millman’s delivery is fluid with some effort, directional towards home plate, high leg kick, accelerates down the mound, three-quarter release, clean arm action. Fastball is 78-81 mph, occasional arm side run, thrown to both sides of the plate. Changeup is 70-72 mph, will occasionally drop his arm slot, thrown with good arm speed, arm side run, some fade, chance to be a plus pitch. Zach Millman LHP / OF / De Soto , KS / 20202/16/19 – Zach Millman is a 6-foot, 195-pound, left-handed pitching prospect in Kansas’ 2020 recruiting class. Millman’s delivery accelerates down the mound with effort, arms and legs coming at the hitter, glove tap into hand release, uses a high glove side for added deception. Gaige Oakley 1B / C / Wichita Heights, KS / 20222/16/19 – Oakley is a big bodied 6-foot-3, 257-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2022 class. On the mound, Oakley has some mound presence with is large frame, downhill, accelerates down the mound, multiple arm slots, fastball is 68-73 mph, thrown for strikes, occasional arm side run, curveball is 53-56 mph, gradual action 10-to-4 shape, changeup is 57-61 mph, occasional cut. |
Collin Rabe OF / RHP / Wichita Collegiate , KS / 20202/16/19 – Rabe has an athletic build and lean, projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds. On the mound, Rabe has a repeatable delivery, works a slower tempo, strong glove side, slight across the body stride which adds some deception, downhill tilt, clean arm action, high three-quarter release, fastball is 76-78 mph, thrown for strikes, commands arm side well, 2 seam is 76 mph with arm side run, changeup is 74-75 mph (at the event), arm side run, near fastball arm speed. |
Cole Thornton RHP / 1B / Wichita Collegiate , KS / 20202/16/19 – Thornton has a large and projectable frame at 6-foot-9, 235-pounds, right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class from Wichita Collegiate HS. Thornton works a slower and methodical tempo, solid delivery and repeats, good direction, downhill tilt, over the top release, clean arm action.
