Quick Hits: Hoosier Holiday Showcase

On Saturday, December 14th we hosted the annual Hoosier Holiday Showcase at Roundtripper Sports Academy in Westfield, IN. A total of 43 players attended the event.

Committed Prospects
+The overall top prospect at the event was 2020 SS Keenan Taylor (Guerin Catholic HS). The Butler recruit has added at least ten pounds of muscle since the last time we saw him, and his strength has made a difference in all facets of his game. He started off the event by running a 7.07 in the 60-yard dash, taking off almost of a full tenth from his previous best time of 7.16 last February. He showcased above average arm strength in both the infield & outfield (88 mph) with carry on his throws. The biggest difference his added strength has made was offensively. Taylor recorded a high exit velocity off the tee at 103 mph, and that power translated to his BP session where he showed elite barrel control with loud contact and gap-to-gap power.
+2020 RHP Eric Fettinger (Fishers HS) had a nice showing on the bump Saturday. The 6-foot-3, 175 pound John Wood CC recruit sat 84-85 with his fastball, up a couple ticks from when we saw him back in July. Fettinger showcased a quick arm from a long, high 3/4 arm action and its easy to see more velo in the tank. His best off-speed pitch was his 74-77 mph slider that flashes sharpness with 11/5 shape.
UNSIGNED SENIORS
+Payton Tamm is a 5-foot-11, 180 pound catcher out of Westfield HS. Tamm showcased a narrow setup behind the dish with quick footwork. His exchange is quick and clean and has good direction on his throws to 2B. He features a short arm action with accuracy and carry on his throws (78 mph); produced consistent sub 2.0 pop times.
+Alex Stroud (Roncalli HS) is a physical 6-foot-4, 220 pound right-handed hitting 1B. Stroud hits from an open setup, loads back and uses a short stride. Possesses above average bat speed with an uphill path that regularly gets to extension producing power to his pull-side. Recorded a high exit velocity of 91 mph off the tee.
+Jaxon Gryder (Angola HS) has a strong, muscular frame at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds. The RHP was 79-80 mph with run.
+Ben Harbeson (Jeffersonville HS) is a 6-foot-3, 230 pound RHP up to 82 mph with the fastball. His breaking ball was 68-71 with late action. Showed the ability throw strikes with all pitches.
JUNIOR STANDOUTS
+Outfielder Garrett Esposito (Beech Grove HS) was one of the more intriguing athletes at the event. The 6-feet, 165 pounder ran a 6.81 in the 60-yard dash. His foot speed translates well into the outfield where he showcased quick, fluid footwork. Arm action is long from a 3/4 slot with throws topping out at 83 mph. Offensively, the right-handed hitter possesses plenty of bat speed with quick hands through the zone. Shows lots of twitch in the box; loud contact during his BP session. Recorded a high exit velocity of 95 mph.
+MIF Nate Kelly (Penn HS) had an all-around solid performance. He started off by running a 7.04 in the 60-yard dash. Offensively, the right-handed hitter showcased quick bat speed with a short path through the zone that produced gap-to-gap type power; high exit velocity of 91 mph. Defensively, he showed range up the middle of the field with a clean exchange and arm strength (87 mph).
+Outfielder Caleb Bender (Zionsville HS) is a sure handed defender with quick footwork and plays through the baseball with athleticism. Throws topped out at 81 mph from the outfield. Offensively, he displayed above average bat speed with a longer, level swing path that produced pull-side power. Has rhythm in the swing with an athletic lower half. Bender ran a 7.16 in the 60.
+Eli Clotfelter (Mt. Vernon HS) is a 5-foot-9, 175 pound RHP with a loose, quick arm. His fastball sat 84-85, T-86. The breaking ball has 11/5 tilt with sharp action in the zone at 72-75, while the changeup was 74-76 with late arm-side run.
+ Southpaw Grady Hay (Westfield) stands in at 6-feet, 160 pounds. He pitches from a short, high 3/4 arm action with above average arm speed. Hay's fastball sat 82-83 with easy effort.
Impressive Underclassmen
+2022 Evan Pearce (Oak Hill HS) was arguably the best overall athlete at the event. The 5-foot-10, 175 pound outfielder shows athletic actions defensively with quick feet and a strong arm (86 mph) with carry. Peaerce ran a 7.01 in the 60-yard dash. At the plate, the RHH showcased a fast bat with projectable pull-side power. Possesses athletic twitch and consistently gets to extension.
+2022 RHP/SS Aidan Hatcher (Zionsville HS) showcased well on the mound and defensively. At 5-foot-11, 150 pounds, Hatcher featured an 80-81 mph fastball from a medium, high 3/4 arm action and above average arm speed. At SS he showcased soft hands with fluid footwork, playing through the baseball with athleticism. Hatcher was 83 mph across the infield and recorded a high exit velocity of 86.
+2022 RHP Grayson Knight (University HS) has projectable pitchers frame at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. Knight pitches from a clean, long high 3/4 arm action; getting good extension out front. His fastball held at the 78-81 mph range, topping out at 82 with occasional run.
