ORANGE, CA - The SoCal Underclass Trials were loaded with talent as over 90 players in the 2020-2022 classes made their way to Hart Park on Tuesday on a perfect day in SoCal. As we continue to break down all the data we will roll out stats, content, and videos from the event, but first here are some quick hits from what we saw on Tuesday.

+ 2021 C/3B Daniel Briones (Bishop Amat HS) was a standout in the catching workout portion with a throwdown velo of 76 and a best pop time of 1.99. Briones shows very good receiving skills with a quiet and stable body. Also shows good feel for the barrel keeping it in the zone throughout his swing from a quiet and quick approach. Projects for some pull power. Had an exit velocity of 81 of a tee.

+2021 SS/2B Robert Mansour (San Dimas HS) carried the momentum from a strong freshman varsity season into the trials. A slick fielding MIF with a strong arm - he had an infield velo of 85 across the diamond - Mansour showed quick, fluid footwork and athletic body control that plays through the ball. He had an exit velocity of 79 and shows a quiet, simple approach at the plate with advanced feel for hitting.

+ 2020 SS/3B Anthony Ortiz (St. John Bosco HS) was one of the most noticeable players in part due to his physical stature. Ortiz ran a 7.28 to start the workout. He threw 84 from the outfield and registered an 85 exit velocity off the tee, it was his bat that caught the attention of scouts as he shows fast hands with consistent solid contact.

+ 2021 3B/SS Noah Elorriaga (Troy HS) has a balanced swing with a slightly uppercut path that resulted in solid, loud contact during his BP round. Eloriaga clocked a 7.6 60 time and had and threw 75 mph across the diamond from short where he shows nimble feet with control of his body and an accurate arm.

+ 2021 OF/2B Timothy Davidson (Servite HS) stood out right away after running a 7.01 to start the event. Davidson followed that up with 86 from the outfield on throws that showed some carry but were accurate. Shows a quiet-to-violent approach at the plate where the hit tool will play. Registered an 89 exit velocity off the tee.

+ 2021 MIF Davis Hildebrandt (Esperanza HS) shows a potential big time hit tool. When he's on plane it's really, really good. Clocked a 7.75 60 time. Was 78 across the diamond from shortstop where he started at Esperanza and could potentially stay in college due in part to his big, accurate arm. Hildebrandt had an exit velocity of 75 off a tee.

+ 2021 MIF Justin DeCriscio (Orange Lutheran HS) started at second base in the playoffs for OLu and showed he belonged. DeCriscio has above average all-around baseball tools. He ran a 7.01 60, and showed his fluid, athletic skills at shortstop where he threw 74 across the diamond. At only 135-pounds, DeCriscio had an exit velocity of 80 off a tee and displayed some sneaky pop with some twitchy strength during batting practice.

+ 2020 C/1B Connor Valenzuela (Ayala HS) showed well for himself during the entire event. Running a 7.37 to open the event, Valenzuela then threw 82 from the outfield with some carry and accuracy showing a fast arm. Showed a solid round of BP with some pull-side pop. Blocks well behind the plate and shows excellent mobility. Pop times were in the 2.09-2.17 range and on the bag.

+ 2020 OF/3B Johnathan Romo (Santiago HS) came out ready to make a statement and he did with his 6.99 60 out the gate. Romo followed that up with a strong armed display in the outfield work where he registered an outfield velocity of 84 mph. He then pounded balls during BP where he shows bat speed and barrel control.

+ 2022 Mikiah Negrete (Orange Lutheran HS) is a big, 6-foot, 185-pound left handed pitcher that showed big time pitchability with a three-pitch mix. A heavy, sinking fastball at 83 that he threw for strikes pairs well with a sweeping curveball that shows late break from the same arm speed. Negrete also ounded balls during BP using a simple and explosive approach. Pull power potential.

+ 2020 Cooper Munro (Beckman HS) shows a powerful, slightly uppercut swing that resulted in an 89 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the cage he consistently barreled pitches up and that carried over to the on field BP. Shows some pull power. With continued physical maturity, Munro is one to dream on.

+ 2021 Braeden Ross (Christian HS) stood out for his versatility and his athleticism. Ross ran a 7.34 60 then took arguably the best round of outfield work showing a strong, accurate arm with an outfield velo of 80. At the plate Ross really projects after showing a balanced and simple approach that resulted in line drives to all fields. Showed some pop in one-hopping the outfield wall three times.

+ 2021 Anthony Aleman (JSerra HS) displays traits of a future big time catcher with his big, accurate arm and advance feel for the position. With pop times in the 2.02-2.13 range, his throws show carry and are online at 74 mph from his crouch. When his timing is good at the plate the result is balls that are squared up and driven with power. Strength throughout his body really projects for more power at the plate and in his arm.

+ 2021 Daniel Perez (Corona HS) was an everyday starter for the BIG VIII Champion Panthers. Perez shows baseball tools both as a shortstop and a pitcher. After running a 6.87 60, Perez showed a smooth, balanced approach during BP lining balls into the gaps. A slick fielder with instincts and body control, Perez threw 81 with carry across the diamond.

+ 2020 Logan Abbey (Villa Park HS) showed very, very well for himself in all facets of his participation. At first base Abbey showed nimble footwork and attacked the ball. Abbey had an 83 infield velocity. Showed some bat speed and power during BP driving balls with authority. Abbey shows a two-pitch mix with feel for a third from an easy delivery. At 83 his fastball shows a nice downhill angle. At 68 his curveball is a hammer with depth.

+ 2022 Karson Bowen (Orange Lutheran HS) shows an electric arm from a high ¾ slot that is loose and uses little effort. Shows cut action on his fastball at 83-85 and an 11-5 shaped curveball that is sharp with late break that he dotted for strikes at 69-73. Also had the second highest exit velocity at 88. Bowen ran a 6.95 60, had a catcher velo of 82 with pop times in the 2.01-2.07 range.

+ The pitching portion of the event was outstanding which included some pitcher only participants closing out the day. Left-handed pitcher Ethan Van Scoy (Temecula Valley) shows good feel on the mound and pounded the zone with strikes. His 6-foot-3, 200-pound, squared shouldered frame projects big velocity gains too. Lefty Brandon Clark (Troy HS) shows good run on a two-seam fastball to go with a sharp, 1/7 breaking curveball from a high ¾ delivery with easy effort. Lefty Garrett Riley (Mater Dei HS) is raw with some projection on the mound. Shows some ability to sink and run fastball for strikes that he pairs with an early breaking curveball with 1/7 shape. Lefty Trevor Schmidt (Servite HS) showed that his arm really works using a Clayton Kershaw like delivery, Schmidt uses a high ¾, short, easy effort arm delivery. Body projects as does his athleticism. Also ran a 7.25 60 and had a 79 OF velocity.
