The Preseason All-State Games (Invite-Only) took place on Sunday, January 28th at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, home of the Arizona State Sun Devils. The event featured some of the top prospects from the 2019-2021 classes and gave them a chance to do a full workout, then compete in live game action. Today, we continue the event analysis with some Quick Hits on a few of the top class of 2021 performers. This is the third of three parts in the article. Coverage will resume in the coming weeks with our positional analysis and overall top prospect list.

Complete video, data and pictures are already posted with individual scouting reports to follow in the coming weeks. Some players that have recently received heavy coverage will only be touched on briefly in this piece or not at all as there were a large number of high-end prospects in attendance. 2021:

-SS Barrett Skaugrud cemented himself as one of the top bats in his class with a standout performance in game action, finding multiple barrels. His body is physically very immature, but he shows surprising pop when considering the level of present strength. Skaugrud shows an advanced rhythm and ability to be on time with loose wrists and some leverage in his swing. At present, he projects as an offensive second basemen at the next level but there's plenty of time for continued refinement of his arm action and strength.

-Augie Walters showed why PBR has him rated as the top freshman right-hander in Arizona. With a fastball up to 83 and feel for his secondary offerings, Walters has the highest-level projectability. A remarkable athlete for his current body type, the 6-foot-3 prospect turned in a 7.08 60-yard dash and showed the same long, clean arm action we saw in the fall.

-RHP Derek Figueroa turned in a 7.11 60-yard dash and ran his fastball up to 82 in PBR's first extended look at the young prospect.

-SS Tyler Kearney does't possess a standout tool yet, but is solid across the board and does a terrific job squaring up the baseball with his flat swing plane. Kearney is also a solid infield defender and athlete (7.20 60) that will be worth monitoring as he develops.

-C Zach Kress is an extremely advanced receiver, matching up well with any player at the event in that area. He also shows a very loose, accurate arm with a quick transfer and should project to throw with more velocity as he adds strength to his very lean frame.

-C Tanner Smith is one of the more advanced bats in the class, with a very simple rhythm and the ability to drive the baseball to all fields. He took a very mature round of BP and is one to follow as his arm strength develops behind the plate.

-OF John Lauinger is the type of twitchy athlete that seems to just hit. A multi-sport athlete, Lauinger ran sub-7.0 earlier this fall and made some loud contact in game action.

-RHP/SS Cayden Collins does everything easy on the baseball field and likely projects best on the mound down the road. Good looking 6-foot-1 frame with some feel to pitch and angle on his fastball with a slight across-body delivery from a low 3/4 arm slot.

-Alex Hernandez again showed some real raw power in his round of BP. He really gets out over his front side and the swing will need some refinement to play at higher levels but there are some interesting tools to dream on at the plate.

-RHP Kaden Schiefelbein is a long ways off physically (5-foot-11, 130-pounds), but it's the type of frame that might develop into an ideal pitcher's body. He shows a workable arm action, getting on top of the ball quickly on the back side and the ability to fill up the strike zone and ran his fastball up to 79 at 130 pounds. 7.25 60-yard dash.

-RHP Spencer Seigworth is all projection at the moment, but the 6-foot, 147-pounder is a good young athlete (7.20 60-yard dash) with a clean arm action and a body that will look a lot different three years from now.
