Uncommitted 2016 Pitchers

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

We have wrapped up the early signing period, but that by all means doesn’t take care of all of the players in the 2016 class. There is several players solid players still available in that class. Here is a look at the top 5 pitchers from the 2016 class that are uncommitted.

2016 LHP Joey Savin, Fayetteville HS
Savin is a 5-10 170-pound  LHP with an average frame and an athletic build. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a clean quick arm. He tends to get rotational and shows to be an east west slinger at times. If he stays closed he does a good job creating leverage and commanding the strike zone on a consistent bases. His fastball works 83-86 mph with arm-side run. He throws a slider with depth and 1/7 action at 70-72 mph. Moving forward Savin projects to get better with his frame and clean arm action. Adding strength will help greatly. He is flying under the radar right now, being in the middle of football season, as his team is competing in the state semi-finals on Friday night.

2016 LHP Drew Dyer, Benton HS
Dyer is a 5-foot-10 205-pound left-hander with a large frame and a physical build. He pitches from a H ¾ arm slot with a short quick arm action. He commands the strike zone with a heavy 84-86 mph fastball with late life through the strike zone. He throws a curveball and changeup as his secondary pitches with near fastball arm speed. He does a sound job repeating his delivery and rhythm. His rhythm his rushed if he would slow down his rhythm and ride his back side longer he would throw harder. Overall Dyer is a physical left-hander with a quick clean arm. He is another dual sport athlete, common thought process is he will play college football, I believe given the right situation he would play baseball at the next level.

2016 RHP Ryan Czanstowski, Mountain Home HS
Czanstkowski is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He works from a H3/4 arm slot with a quick loose arm. His fastball was 84-87 mph with slight arm-side run. He located a 11/5 curveball with early break for strikes thrown at 69-72 mph. His frame will hold more weight and his athleticism says he will throw harder as he continues to develop. He repeats his mechanics which should allow him to throw strikes consistently as he continues to mature.

2016 RHP Ty Gordon, Greene County Tech HS
Gordon is a 6-foot-5 right hander with a large frame and an average build. Gordon does a good job creating angles using his height pitching at a downhill angle from a H3/4 arm slot. His fastball was 83-86 mph with slight sink. He located a curveball with 11/5 shape and early break. Gordon’s best secondary pitch is his changeup that he throws at near fastball arm speed with arm side run 72-75 mph. Overall Gordon is a big kid that needs to gain strength, he looks young for his class, so he should develop more than the average kid in his class. The arm is clean and uses very little lower half. I believe a sleeper of the 2016 class that may surprise some people in time.

2016 RHP Bryce Bartlett, Searcy HS
Bartlett is a 6-foot-2 180 right-hander with an athletic frame and build. He pounded the strike zone with a fastball of 84-86 mph touching 87 mph. He complemented the fastball with a sharp breaking ball thrown 74-77 mph with late life. He does a sound job repeating his delivery and stays balanced through out. I would like to see him shorten his stride and work more on top of the baseball but it works for him. Overall Bartlett is a good athlete with a quick short arm action who projects to get better.
