Fall Prospect League: MVP
October 11, 2016
By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director
The 2016 Fall Prospect League was a huge success, this event allowed me to get a good feel for over 70 players, and players from multiple classes. The league featured a little of everything with some top in 2017, 2018, 2019, and emerging players in the 2020 class. Throughout this week we are going to announce our post season awards.
MVP
The league MVP is 2017 OF/INF/RHP Matt Goodheart from Magnolia HS, who competed with the Extra Innings Sticks. The Extra Innings Sticks went a perfect 8-0, receiving contributions from Goodheart on all phases of the game.
Goodheart was impressive offensively hitting for .541 with 3 doubles, 5 triples and 22 RBIs. On the bases he was a threat stealing 11 bases. Defensively he played sound defense in the outfield, the last week of the season he showed his ability on the infield playing solid at first base. Goodheart even contributed on the mound picking up a save out of the bullpen in a tightly contested double header at Southern Arkansas. Overall Goodheart had a dominate performance and is one of the top uncommitted players in the 2017 class.
In the Conversation
2018 CIF/RHP Alex Langley, Riverview High School
Langley is a 6-foot3 190-pound CIF/RHP with a large frame and an athletic build. He led the way for PBR Select. Langley showed doubles powers and was a consistent threat offensively with fast bat speed and balance through extension. Defensively he played solid at both 1st and 3rd base. On the mound he showed flashes of advanced pitchability location his fastball consistently for strikes at 81-83 mph and solid curveball thrown with 11/5 shape with gradual break. This combination was most effective week two at Arkansas Tech University where he pitched 4 shutout innings to help propel PBR Select to a victory. He also had a double and scored a run in that contest.
2018 RHP/OF Brayden Todd, Arkadelphia High School
Todd is a 6-foot-1 175-pound RHP/OF with an athletic frame and build. He was a stabilizing force on a pitching staff for Arkansas Prospects Hesley. He commanded the strike zone with a fastball 81-84 mph from an H ¾ arm slot with a quick arm. He complimented his fastball with a slider thrown 72-74 mph with late break. As a positon player he showed raw bat speed and the ability to find barrel consistently. He impressed scouts in batting practice at Southern Arkansas as he drove a ball out of the yard in batting practice. He also recorded two doubles that day.
