A look at 5 underclassmen that have stood out over the summer. These dynamic arms have some upside to follow as they move through their high school career.
Connor McCullough, RHP 2018 Maumelle HS
McCullough is a 5-foot-11 155-pound right hander with a medium frame and an athletic build. He struck out 6 in his 3 innings of work. He did this by locating his fastball 83-86 mph down in the strike zone and complimented it with a 11/5 curveball with depth thrown 71-73 mph. McCullough works with rhythm and balance throughout his delivery. His arm action is clean and loose from a H3/4 arm slot. As a 2018 grad the future looks bright for McCullough definitely a name to follow over the next three years.
Jacob Williams, RHP, 2017 Bentonville HS
Williams is a 6-foot, 170-pound right-hander with a medium frame and an athletic build. He works from a H3/4 arm slot with a short quick arm. He struck out 3 in 2 innings of work by locating his fastball 83-86 mph and his 11/5 curveball with sharp late break 72-74 mph. He did a good job repeating his mechanics, I would like to see him lengthen the arm action, but it is a quick arm that throws strikes. At this point in time, Williams is very intriguing due to his arm speed and his advance feel for his breaking ball.
Tyler Moreland RHP 2017 Genoa Central HS
Moreland is a 6-foot-2 180 pound right hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He pitched 2 innings allowing 1 hit and 2 runs while striking out 3. He located his fastball 83-86 mph up to 87 mph down in the strike zone. His secondary stuff lacked command and shape. Moreland works from an H ¾ arm action with a loose clean arm. He rushes through his delivery and gets very little extension or help from his lower half. As he develops both mechanically and physically he could turn into to a solid collegiate pitcher.
Logan Easley RHP RHP/INF 2017 Heritage HS
Easley is a 6-foot 170 pound right-hander with a quick clean arm. He pounded the strike zone with a fastball of 84-87 mph that had late life through the strike zone. He has an advance feel for his secondary locating both his changeup and curveball. Overall Easley has a clean arm action with a medium frame, and an athletic build. The fact that he is already showing the ability to pitch and advanced arm strength makes Easley a player to follow.
2017 RHP Austin Kelly, Bryant HS
Kelly is a 6-foot-1 190-pound RHP with a large frame and a physical build. He worked two innings with impressive stuff. His fastball set 86-89 mph with late life through the strike zone. He threw a slider 78-80 mph with erratic break but at times was sharp with late 10/4 action. Overall a big arm with some upside, as he matures and cleans up some timing issues he will throw harder and strikes on a consistent basis
