All-State Games Scout Notes: Team Maroon

The All-State Games were Saturday, October 22nd and 23rd at Henderson State University and Ouachita Baptist University. The event saw 94 players compete in three games. Below you will find scout note over Team Maroon. As we continue to dive into video analysis more complete write ups will be put in the players profiles
Scout Notes Hitters:
2019 OF Alex Cauley, North Little Rock HS
Athletic frame with thin build; Offensively has a quiet approach, with compact line drive swing; balance though to extension, feel for barrel consistently; Defensively makes plays, low instinctive reads on balls in air, has arm strength with accuracy. Above average athlete needs to gain strength.
2018 OF Gabe Helsley, Jacksonville HS
Athletic frame and build; Offensively slight open stance, arm bar and leg lift, rotational swing; incorporates low ½ consistently maintains balance through extension; Defensively solid reads on ball in air, plays through with fluid footwork, normal exchange. Above average runner
2020 MIF Brayden Sites, Sheridan HS
Athletic frame and build; offensively starts with balanced stance with slight forward lean, attacks baseball with line drive swing. Defensively sound actions, games seems fast for him at times, short arm action throws with accuracy. Solid athleticism.
2019 OF Ethan Fowler, Catholic HS
Athletic frame and build; LH Hitter with compact swing with fast bat speed. Maintains rhythm and balance through extension. Defensively plays through the baseball with fluid footwork, clean arm action with carry.
2019 MIF Gage Taylor, Sylvan Hills HS
Athletic frame and build; Starts from an athletic stance, attacks the baseball aggressively with a line drive swing; Finds barrel consistently; Defensively solid actions playing through the baseball with fluid footwork and a normal exchange; Solid athlete
2018 C Zach Meluguin, Lakeside HS
Stocky frame and a physical build; Starts from an athletic stance, slight load stride. Attacks the baseball with uphill swing with rotation. Defensively quiet receiver, plays with effort. Short quick arm with accuracy and carry.
2020 CIF Brett James Central Arkansas Christian HS
Large frame and athletic build; Starts from an athletic stance, inconsistent load stride. Swing has length and rotation to it. Defensively plays through baseball with solid actions, elongated exchange with clean accurate arm.
Scout Notes Pitchers:
2019 RHP Levi Smith, Central Arkansas Christian
Athletic build and frame; over the top arm slot with elongated arm action; fastball worked 73-75 mph with downhill action. Curveball 64-66 mph 11/5 shape and early break. Changeup thrown with fastball arm speed 66-67 mph. repeated mechanics throwing strikes consistently.
2019 RHP John Henry Malcoch, Cabot HS
Athletic build and frame, H ¾ arm slot with stab in the back. Late hand separation, with a limited extension to home plate. Fastball worked 75-76 mph Curveball worked 65-66 mph and Changeup was thrown 70 mph with arm side run. He has arm speed, mechanically inconsistencies led to erratic command.
2020 Brett James, RHP, Central Arkansas Christian
Large frame and athletic build; Fastball worked 76-78 mph flashing 82 mph twice in 4 innings of work. He showed command of lower half of the strike zone. Curveball worked 67-70 mph with 11/5 shape and early break. Repeated his mechanics consistently allowing him to throw strikes consistently.
2019 Davis Gatlin RHP Central Arkansas Christian
Athletic frame and build; H ¾ arm slot with quick arm. Fastball worked 75-77 mph with slight sink, curveball was thrown with near fastball arm speed and worked 68-70 mph with late break. Fastball late movement caused swing and misses consistently. Repeated mechanics and rhythm, commanded strike zone effectively
2018 Reed Rispoli LHP Russellville HS
Large frame and athletic build; ¾ arm slot with elongated arm action; deceptive arm action; Fastball worked 73-75 mph with slight cut. Inconsistent feel for breaking ball thrown 61-64 mph. lacks consistent hand separation and rhythm in delivery.
2019 Lucas Calhoone, RHP Sylvan Hills HS
Large frame average build; pitches from a H ¾ arm slot with a short quick arm action; Repeats delivery consistently; Delivery is made with effort with a some head movement. Consistently commanded the strike zone with fastball 75-77 mph and curveball 65-67 mph with late break.
