10/16/16 - Max FB: 85, FB: 82-84, SL: 69-73 6-foot-6, 190-pound, LHP put together one of the most impressive performances from the entire weekend of baseball, tall and commanding presence on the mound, has a ton of athleticism for a kid his size and age, smooth delivery was similar to what we saw from him at the Underclass Games but better, fluid leg lift gets his lower half loaded and brings him to a high spot on the mound, reaches down the mound with his long and closed stride while using a long and loose arm action to get out in front and jump at the hitter, easy finish. Fastball was on point with good command and some late run, slider showed 10/4 shape with better arm action than we saw previously, velocity climbed. Tate struck out 3 in his two innings of work without allowing any solid contact.
7/27/16 - Home-1st: 5.41, Position Velocity: 74, Exit Velocity: 85 6-foot-6, 190-pound, LHH hits from a wide and even stance and begins with his hands in a fairly high position, uses a smooth and abbreviated leg lift along with a fluid drop and push back of his hands to get loaded, lower half usually gets through but stays tall and pushes him forward a little bit, bat path was a little steep because of that movement forward, handsy swing. Defensively, showed average hands and footwork around the bag and certainly knows the position, long and loose arm action through a ¾ slot produced throws with decent accuracy and good carry. Athletic for a big guy, his combination of lankiness and athleticism are intriguing.
7/27/16 - Max FB: 82, FB: 79-82, 63-64 SL 6-foot-6, 190-pound, LHP is a big kid that has quite the presence on the mound, Tate is athletic and uses good rhythm in his motion and approach to the plate, starts tall and finishes lower and with a bent back as he does his best to get out front and reach toward the plate, strides a little closed and will tend to fall toward the 3B side on his finish, long and loose arm action comes from a ¾ slot and can be very tough to pick up. Fastball was firm and showed some hard run at the plate, slider was sweeping and even though he slowed his arm a tad, it had enough movement to be very effective. Tate struck out 5 hitters in 2 innings of work.
