vs Xavier: True freshman Drew Lafferty pitched a super quick, scoreless inning. Seven pitches, three outs with a lively 92-93 mph fastball and hard biting curveball at 73-74 mph and 2600+ rpm
2/20/22
Physical: Well put-together, dynamic 6-foot-1, 205lb frame. Next level potential.
Offensively: RHH - Open, crouched stance with the hands operating in rhythm off of the shoulder. Utilized a leg-hang to initiate the swing through a slightly uphill path into the hitting zone towards a higher two-handed finish. Fluid barrel that does significant damage when getting on-plane early. Stays balanced in the approach and a lower hand position allows for some loft on occasion. Recorded a 99 mph bat-exit velocity (93 mph AVG) and worked up to a 373 foot distance at his peak. Easy two way skill set, but projects very highly as an arm.
Pitching: RHP - Power stuff from a momentum building delivery. Transfers energy well upwards through the chain and gets over the front-side at release from H ¾ slot. Good tilt on a 90-92 mph FB into the zone, commanded at a 70% strike rate. Mixed a high-spin 2478rpms breaker that flashed two-plane 11/5 shape (swing/miss in the past). Then faded a mid-80’s CH to the arm-side of the plate up to 20 inches of HM. Could sink the ball when he wanted with heavy action.
2/23/20
Demonstrated advanced feel for an uber-physical 6-foot-1, 195-pound frame with easy athleticism and fluidity in his actions. The University of Kentucky commit sat 89-92 mph with late, explosive life out of a repeatable, power high ¾ arm-slot with noticeable athleticism in the arm-swing. Mixed in legit feel for a 70-71 mph two-plane curveball with sharp 11/5 bite and disappearing depth. Featured a quality third pitch in an 81-82 mph changeup thrown with advanced sell and arm-side fade. Threw three pitches in the zone with confidence and similar arm-speeds further legitimizing the accolade of being top bullpen session of the day. Not to be finished, the physical right handed hitter begins with a wide, even stance utilizing a leg-kick to initiate a slightly uphill barrel path with fluidity into the hitting zone. Generated natural pull-side lift with loud pop during one of the top batting practice rounds of the day. Repeatedly contacted the ball out in front of the plate allowing for advanced hand speed to whip through the baseball. An athletic lower half created deep connection between the hips and hands yielding quality barrel control and an impressive 93 mph bat-exit velocity.
