Luke Berni, a 2021 right-handed hitting outfielder caught our attention when he stepped into the box for his round of BP. It was balanced and whippy with some juice to his pull side, and Berni was able to get the barrel through the zone and out-front with bat speed. The OF was 94 mph off the tee and his Rapsodo numbers were in the 88-93 mph range in BP.
9.10.17 - Big 6-foot-2, 155-pound 2020 right-handed hitting first baseman. At the plate, big leg kick and launch, lots of moving parts, had an exit velo of 84 mph. Better swings when timing was there and everything stayed in rhythm. Also worked off the mound this day, 3/4 slot that at times would get underneath the ball. Using his size and leverage to an advantage, the 6-foot-2 has room and time to make some mechanical adjustments and let his strength and ability take over.
10.8.16 Young 2020 grad with size for his age class at 6-foot, 140-pounds. Right-handed hitting first baseman who ran a 7.46 sixty, had an exit velocity off the tee at 80 mph, and was 67 mph across the diamond. Upright stance in the box, hands back with a quick, hard separation with minimal stride. Creating more extension through baseball with finish will help Berni. Size and arm for first base. Big winter in the gym and time to mature and develop will all play positives for Berni in 2017.
