9/21/19
Offensively- the right handed hitter stands in the box in a tall stance with feet shoulder width apart. Simple short load actions. Quick direct path to the baseball. Displayed hard consistent contact to the pull side. Stays balanced throughout the swing. Defensively- the 1b displayed active footwork. Moves well laterally and showed above average funnel actions. Takes his time to get rid of the baseball from a mid ¾ arm slot. Pitching- the left handed pitcher displayed a repeatable delivery. Works mainly from the stretch. Jones stays balanced throughout the delivery. Smooth early hand separation. Pitches from a mid ¾ arm slot. Displayed feel for three pitches. Jones is a 2021 graduate with a projectable lean frame.
10/28/18
Average build at 5-foot-9 143 pounds for the right-handed hitting 1B/LHP. Jones ran a 4.91 home-to-1B. Offensively- Narrow setup with feet directly under shoulders; quiet, linear take back of the hands with a slight leg kick that gains ground. Aggressive lower half, stays behind the ball with a short, compact stroke that repeats. Stays in the zone, elevated two handed finish with plenty of line drives. Raw exit velocity of 70 MPH but results play better. Defensively- At 1B, athletic setup with a taller lower half, lean over the belt with hands staying soft out in front. Clean exchange with a moderate arm swing; showed athleticism around the bag. Arm strength peaked at 67 MPH across the diamond. Pitching- Works primarily from the stretch with a center rubber setup; closes off as he comes set. Lower to mid chest drive up to his balance point; long and free arm action that works through a high 3/4 slot; repeats his landing and finish. FB sat 69-71 MPH with plenty more in the tank due to a clean arm action and athletic actions. Breaking ball showed 10-4 shape at 61-62 MPH while change up showed late arm side fade/sink at 62-64 MPH.
