Body has filled out in the off-season. A definite physical presence in the box right now. Swing has become more direct showing bat speed and high level pop in BP. The hand load is a slight down and up action. With two strikes a lot of the movement is eliminated and there is a minimal stride.
06.27.16 - State Games of NC (2016, Cary, NC) - C/UT Spencer Smith had a good week flashing tools throughout the week. In game pop time of 2.07, with accuracy, backed up the 2.00 times from the workout day. Offensively, Smith will drift to the front side at times but has hand strength and should develop into a power threat with more time.
06.15.16 - C/UT Spencer Smith (Northern Durham HS, NC) has a strong frame at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds. An East Carolina recruit, he hits from the right side with a medium leg kick and average bat speed. He tended to drift out front in BP, but stayed back in the live BP session and hit a home run to right-center field. His pop times hovered in the 2.0-2.1 second range and his throws were online with carry.
