KC Prospect ID: The 5-foot-8, 150-pound Turner continues to impress, now completing his third PBR showcase. Turner is a versatile player, excelling behind the plate, on the mound, and in the outfield. On the mound, Turner comes from a high ¾ arm slot and has free and easy arm action, sitting 80-82 with a heavy fastball. He also has fastball arm speed on a 10-to-4 breaking ball (69-71 mph) with late movement and changeup with late fade (71-72 mph). Turner showed a firm wrist and good footwork behind the plate, recording a top pop time of 2.06. In the outfield, Turner is quick to the ball and plays through it consistently. He showed arm strength on his throws (82-84 mph) with carry. At the plate, Turner has a compact swing with good extension through contact producing line drives gap to gap.
KC Top Prospect: The only Class of 2014 participant, Turner put himself on the radar by excelling in all facets of the game. Behind the plate, Turner had an event best pop time of 2.15 with consistently quick, accurate throws. In the OF, Turner was quick to the ball and showed some carry on his event best 83 mph throw. At the plate, Turner showed a smooth load and good weight transfer to produce consistent line drives. As he grows and gets stronger, Turner has the potential to be an impact player.
SWMO Propsect ID:Turner impressed at the showcase by excelling behind the plate, in the outfield, and on the mound. The athletic 5-foot-10, 155-pounder registered a pop time of 2.02, showed a quick release and transfer, and fired the ball down to second at 80-82 mph. In the outfield, Turner demonstrated advanced actions coming through the ball and crisp, accurate 83-84 mph throws. On the mound, the right-hander’s fastball sat between 80-83 mph, and he also showed an above-average slider with late, hard break, as well as a 73-75 mph change up. From an offensive standpoint, Turner could emerge as one of Missouri’s elite 2014 two-way players with a few minor adjustments to his swing.
