6/18/13 A prototypical pitcher’s body at 6-foot-3 and 175-pounds, Bays has a frame that can handle more weight with strength gains surely to come. A recent Western Michigan commit, there aren’t many miles on the arm as he really began concentrating on pitching two years ago. A semi wind-up leads to a long arm circle in back with a quick and easy high ¾ delivery with proper extension. The fastball is mostly straight sitting at 85-87 and bumping 88 with more in the tank. When down in the zone there is some arm side run. The curveball is inconsistent at 70-72 and goes up out of his hand now but he has some feel for it. A strike thrower and works quick, with good makeup and likes to compete.
2/23/13 Bays has finally made his jump. Bays is a tremendous athlete and there has been discussion that he could play behind the plate or in the outfield in addition to the mound. But no one should question where his best side is now. Bays has a prototypical pitchers build (6-foot-3, 195-pounds). He has broad shoulders with more room to fill out. Bays sat primarily at 87-88 mph with his fastball. He had life and movement down in the zone. His breaking ball was the best we have seen him throw. It had 12/6 action and he threw it for strikes. His change is still a work in progress as far as command is concerned but he had good differential (77-79). Bays’ stock should skyrocket after this performance.
9/16/12 Bays will be a part of a dangerous team next year at Lake Orion joining teammates Brad Schaenzer and Nick Deeg. Bays is a big strong body standing at 6-feet-2, 193-pounds. Along with his strong frame you have his big arm. Bays has a free and easy arm from the outfield with strong accurate throws. He touched 87 mph from the outfield. Because of his arm strength he can also get it down to second base in a hurry at 1.97 and sat 84-86mph on the mound with his fastball.
