A right-handed pitcher who projects very nicely at any level. He pitches 86-89 with the makings of a very good spin pitch. The spin pitch is in the mid 70's and could be an out pitch at the next level. His change up is close to being advanced and he uses it.The body frame is rangy and can certainly add weight to it. I love his athleticism and his ability to handle the running game. There is a great deal to like regarding this young man
3/19/19: Lean, athletic frame with broad shoulders and projection. Up-tempo delivery with short, quick arm action through high-3/4 slot. Only slight effort. Fastball ranged 90-95, sat 92-93 with run. Threw both a power slurve at 81-84 with solid three-quarters break and a shorter, tighter cutter at 85-88, which was the better offering on this look. Changeup was firm, sitting 86-89 with arm-side sink. Seemed more like a two-seam fastball. Command was erratic. Went 5.1 innings, allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits, four walks and a hit batter while striking out three. (Rode)
2/15/19: Aggressive right-hander sat 90-94, touching 95 mph with his slightly above average spinning fastball (2300 rpm). Mixed in his trademark high spinning (2690 rpm) plus slider at 83-85 mph and a 88-89 mph cutter to strike out seven Sacred Heart hitters in 6.2 IP and 95 pitches in his season debut. McSweeney is a likely top three round selection in June. (Seifert)
5/15/18: Next season the ball will continue to be in good hands on Friday nights for the Demon Deacons. Sophomore righty Morgan McSweeney started Saturday night’s game. He’s a 6’4/210 righty with a super quick arm and a sinking fastball up to 95 mph from a high three-quarters slot. He complements his heater with an above average 83-87 mph tight slider and 86 mph straight changeup. With continued good health and normal development, expect McSweeney to be considered for the early rounds next June. (Seifert)
