New England Insider: Updated Class of 2016 Player Rankings (February)
A fresh start is upon New England, as we have been blessed with an extremely light winter thus far. The baseball season is right around the corner, an exciting time as guys get in the cages and on the mound to prep for the spring. Many schools head down south to get the cobwebs off and play in the warm weather while some stay in the Northeastern part of the country in hopes of getting some quality time in on the diamond.
That being said, we have had the pleasure of seeing a number of solid players this past fall and winter. Prospects are popping up left and right, making velocity jumps, improving 60-yard dash times and showing more power with the bat.
Covering six states, New England is a prime area for legit baseball talent and now we would like to bring to you the updated 2016 Player Rankings.
What’s New at the Top
The top of the 2016 Player Rankings remains intact with Holden White, a left-handed pitcher out of Kingswood-Oxford in Connecticut, leading the way. He is a Wake Forest commit as well as a possible high draft pick.
Matthew Cleveland (pictured right), out of Windsor, Connecticut, has signed with Florida Southwestern JC. Cleveland should have a hard time turning down his high draft status.
Jackson Gillis, a left-hander out of Wilmington HS in Massachusetts, fits the same mold as White. Gillis is committed to Vanderbilt.
Chris Winkel, a left-handed hitting 1B/C out of Amity HS (CT), is headed to UConn and is the top ranked positional player at No. 4.
The Risers
Jimmy Titus (pictured right), of East Catholic in Connecticut, jumps into the top 10 in the rankings. A Bryant College signee, Titus is an athletic infielder who toes the mound as well. Titus is a high-level player who will draw some pro interest as well.
Bryan Hart, another Bryant signee, is a middle infielder out of Xaverian Brothers HS in Massachusetts. Hart is a plus runner with looseness to all his actions. He is a good looking prospect who just attended an event in Rhode Island last week.
Matt Geoffrion, a right-handed pitcher who signed with University of Maine, is a high-level arm. The arm is clean and he shows a nice looking short slider. Geoffrion is now ranked in the top 30.
Chris Galland, a right-handed hitting outfielder out of Lincoln-Sudbury in Massachusetts, has jumped up in the rankings all the way to No. 39.
Newcomers
Ted Sabato, of Brunswick HS in Connecticut, is a right-handed pitcher who has made a huge jump into the top 10. Sabato is a UNC commit and pitches in the upper-80s with a projectable frame.
Evan Vulgamore, a catcher from Bow HS in New Hampshire, is new to the rankings. Vulgamore is considered by many as the top prospect in New Hampshire in 2016. The Quinnipiac commit comes in at the No. 42 spot.
Chris Hopkins, of New Hampton HS, is new to the rankings. The Stetson commit is rated No. 67 while Nicholas Steele, a right-handed pitcher out of Dartmouth HS, comes in at No. 197.
