Uncommitted. Westbrook is one of the top arms in the state in the 2027 class. Westbrook has had a strong Freshman season leading the Alexander pitching staff all year. Matthew shows a consistent upper 80’s FB that was up to 88 at the Battle For Bartow last week. Westbrook displays a good arsenal of offspeed pitches with the CB and CH. The physical right hander creates good momentum down the mound and extends well on his pitches. Westbrook will continue to grow as he looks to finish his 2024 season strong and have a good summer on the mound.

We knew Westbrook was getting the ball for the Friday night game for his first varsity start. The nerves would be high, but he is going to be a key piece for Alexander on the mound, so Coach Martinez gave him the ball against a tough McIntosh squad. He worked out of the first, and then starting attacking in the 2nd, with a couple strikeouts. He attacked with the fastball up to 88 and settled in at 84-87. He was mixing the curveball and change up with confidence. He kept his composure in the final inning after giving up a double to one of the best hitters at the event. He worked out of it with only 2 runs given up. Those types of innings are great to see as a freshman. He kept them in the ball game and gave them a chance.

Westbrook turned a lot of heads in his outing today, where he displayed dominance, going 2 innings with 2 hits, 0 earned runs, and 3 strikeouts. He worked quickly and in a typical game, it is easy to see him going more than 5 innings. At 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, he has an XL build that will handle the next level well. His FB ran up to 88 with impressive spin, topping 2400 and has displayed the ability to hit higher numbers. The same can be said about his CB, which ran 72-74 with a max spin of 2584. With an advanced feel for these two pitches and his solid mechanics at such a young age, he’s a highly projectable arm as he continues to develop and improve.
