TEAM OUTLOOK
Coach Martinez has a lot to look forward to at Alexander with the current and up and coming talent. They had a strong year in '23 and should have been a building block for 2024. Heath Henley and Colton Pickett will lead the way for the seniors. Henley will be a power arm on the mound that is progressed a ton over the last year. Pickett is a switch hitting first baseman with raw power that will lead the talented youth in the line up. As soon as basketball is over the Cougars will get back Oklahoma State commit, Terrance Bowen, who nearly earned MVP honors at Future Games in 2023 with one of the biggest performances of the summer. Josh Sellars will defend the middle of the infield with Bowen, and will be a consistent bat in the line up. As far as underclassmen go, sophomore, David Jackson Jr. has a real chance to have a breakout year headed into the recruiting window August 1. Freshman, Matthew Westbrook is in talks as one of th best 2027 arms in the state. On the youth circuit in 14u he pitched in all the big games, and even threw in the championship game for Team Georgia at the Junior Future Games, so varsity time as a freshman should be no problem for Westbrook. Coach Martinez will call on him early in 2024, and no doubt he will be one of the biggest components of a successeful season. The Cougars are going to be an exciting team to follow over the next couple of years, and we will first get out look at the Georgia Dugout club tournament in a few short weeks.
