Cape Cod: Donay smacked 12 homers in 39 games as a freshman at Virginia Tech before hitting the portal and winding up at Florida. He impressed in the Cape League all-star game with his power and his arm strength, and he had a decent summer for the Harbor Hawks, hitting four homers and 11 doubles but also striking out 43 times against 11 walks while hitting .229. Donay’s physical gifts are self-evident — he’s listed at 6-foot-5, 223 but might be even bigger than that, larger than the usual catcher, which raises questions about wear and tear on his XL frame. His double-plus arm strength is a major asset behind the plate, though his accuracy can be erratic. His receiving, framing and blocking all have a ways to go, but he brings toughness and works hard. A wrist injury affected him late in the season after he was hit by a pitch, but he showed off some of the best raw power in the Cape in the first half, posting some of the league’s top exit velocities, as high as 110.6 mph. Donay needs to improve his swing decisions and take better at-bats, but he does show a willingness to choke up and reduce his stride with two strikes, which is encouraging. His righthanded power potential and his arm strength behind the plate give him tantalizing upside, but he is still fairly raw, and it will be fascinating to watch him develop in Gainesville.

2023 Cape Cod All-Star Game: 70 raw power with 70 arm strength on 6-5/215 frame that has ample room for additional strength/weight. Day One follow for 2025 draft.
1/18/20
Donay might have the most potential of anyone in attendance. As a 2022 grad, he is already 6-foot-5, 190 pounds with a live arm. The size looks a bit unorthodox in the infield and he still needs to mature into his large frame, but the arm makes up for it as he was up to 91 mph from shortstop. Behind the plate he was clocked at 81 mph from throw downs to second and showcased a quick transfer and a bit more comfortability in the lower half at catcher with balanced transitions and strong throws. At the plate he uses leverage on the backside and tries to get a little extra separation to move through the zone with authority. He creates impressive bat speed and extends through the middle of the field. Even though he is raw, the potential really pops when Donay stepped on the mound. He touched 87 mph with a promising mid 70’s changeup and has very little experience on the mound. With some direction and growth, Donay could be dominant with his arm talent.

Uncommitted 2022. Tall, lanky catcher at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds. Impressed offensively and defensively throughout the workout and gameplay. Short leg kick, keeps hands inside. Gap-to-gap hitter. Made consistent hard contact in BP. Quick transfers on throws down to second. Showed in game pop times of 2.00.
2/11/19
At 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, he has a very lanky frame to grow and mature into. Defensively, he is still learning his body in space. As he matures and continues to add reps, strength and flexibility, the natural feel for the position as well as strong hands and a strong arm should translate to a solid to above average defender. Offensively, he has long levers and still maturing. This creates length at times, but should become more compact with age and strength. The long levers also create leverage and will have power potential in the future. Very high ceiling young catcher.
6/23/18
A lanky 6-foot, 145 pounds and has the frame you can see being very projectable as he matures. Offensively, there is present leverage. There is some steepness in the path and could get into the lower half, but the leverage will translate to power as he matures and adds strength. Defensively, he is athletic and flexible. The hands work and has quality defensive tools. His pop time ranged from 2.13-2.28. There is a lot of growth ahead and there are present tools that you can see making big strides.
