Florida State Games 14U/15U Day Two Recap
June 2, 2019
On June 1st-4th, 2019 at IMG Academy, the Baltimore Orioles Complex, and the Atlanta Braves Complex, PBR Florida will host the 2019 Florida State Games. This years event features 60+ teams from 14U, 15U, 16U, and 17U divisions. The event will feature four pool play games followed by single elimination bracket-play until the first champion is crowned. Today we take a look at some of the standouts of day two in the 14U and 15U divisions. To see standouts from day one CLICK HERE.

A catalyst at the top of the order for the Midland Swarm, Davis has been an impact bat throughout the tournament. Barrel whips through the zone with present bat speed, drives the ball from gap-to-gap. |
Isaiah Myles RHP / SS / Alonso, FL / 2022Rankings StateRank: 42 / POS: 4
Smaller, developing 5-foot-7, 140-pound frame with athleticism. Easy load from the right side with the hands working down and back before getting the barrel fast through the zone on a flatter path. Should be aided by more strength that will allow the barrel to drive through the zone. Lined a single to left field in his final at-bat, and showcased bat-to-ball skills. |

Kodi Deskins C / RHP / N/A, FL / 2023Deskins got the nod in Game 1 and showed out very well. Deskins has an athletic arm and had his fastball sitting in the 78-80mph. Deskins showed good command and rhythm and showed some feel for a curveball in the 63-66mph range |
Colton Wombles C / OF / Russell County , AL / 2023Wombles really impressed in Game 1. He started the day off with a loud opposite field double, showing a mature approach at the dish. Despite being behind the plate, Wombles should good wheels and advanced feel for the game on the bases, stealing 3rd and taking home on a wild pitch. Wombles was active behind the plate defensively. Fun player to watch. |

Anthony Cole 3B / SS / NA, FL / 2023Impressive, long-limbed frame with some developing lean strength throughout, Cole stands out amongst his peers for his sheer size, but even more so for his skill. Plays a higher level third base including a strong arm, and demonstrated the ability to make plays on the run. At the plate, the right-handed hitter features a more mature approach with natural feel for the barrel. Though his limbs are long, his awareness of his body and movements is impressive. Showcased the ability to drive the ball from gap to gap working slightly uphill through the zone. High-level prospect in the class, and one to know for the future. |
Guierrmo Yepes 1B / 3B / Windermere, FL / 2023Yepes is a mammoth of a young man, standing out among his peers. Offensively, he showed a mature approach, staying back on an offspeed pitch and belting a double to left center. Yepes’ large frame and feel at the plate could help him develop into a big time power hitter. |

Adrian Rolon 3B / RHP / Riverview , FL / 2023Long, lanky athlete at 5-foot-11, 160-pounds. Saw time in center field as well as on the mound. Defensively, covers ground well in the outfield, natural instincts. On the mound, short arm action out of a high ¾ slot. Strides towards third base, lands square, finishes crossing over. Fastball played at 76-78 with some run, 11/5 curveball at 67 mph. |
Trey Wilson 3B / RHP / Bloomingdale, FL / 20235-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed pitcher, strong frame. Got the start for Ostingers against Southern Squeeze. Worked with a short arm action from a high ¾ slot, showed feel and presence on the mound. Threw a high volume of strikes. Fastball sat 72-74, with more in the tank to come. Slider played at 62 mph. |

Adam Turrubiartez LHP / 1B / Immokalee, FL / 20236-foot, 160-pound left-handed hitting prospect. Offensively, takes a balanced setup, short stride, hands load back smoothly, stays balanced throughout. Calm, relaxed demeanor, has an approach at the plate, looks to make line drive contact. |
Nick Staszak RHP / 1B / N/A, FL / 2023Staszak showed some grit battling through the tough Burn Platinum lineup. Staszak is a right handed pitcher whose fastball sat in the 71-73mph range. He also flashed a curveball that had late break in the 63-64mph range. |
Michael Staiano LHP / 1B / N/A, NJ / 20236-foot, 160-pound left-handed hitting prospect, lean, lanky frame, plenty of room to fill out frame. Offensively, swing works with a line drive middle approach, finds the barrel more times than not. |

Peter Liakakos 3B / RHP / Venice, FL / 2023Liakakos got the start on the mound and completely neutralized the Squeeze lineup. Liakakos displayed a 78-82 mph fastball with some arm side run. He also flashed a slider at 64-66. Athletic on the mound, arm worked well. |
Blake Opie / N/A, FL / 2023Opie is a good looking ballplayer, standing 6’1”. Starting crouched in his stance, Opie explodes out of that crouch and shows quick hands and strong wrists. Has the makings to be an above average hitter with big time pop with some maturation. |
Abel Albarran SS / RHP / Charlotte, FL / 20235-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitting infielder, athletically built. Caught our eye for his aggressive approach at the plate, advanced hand speed, really lets the barrel go, can drive the ball from gap-to-gap with emerging pull-side power. |

Anthony Gualemi C / RHP / N/A, FL / 2024Long and lean, 5-foot-10, 135-pound frame with some wiry-athleticism. Deeper load of the hands when hitting from the left side with a flatter path through the zone. Confident approach, and drove a single up the middle in his final at-bat before stealing second and third, and scoring the winning run. Frame will carry much more strength in the future. Plays with energy. |
AJ Shelton C / SS / Alexis Shelton, FL / 20225-foot-6, 135-pound catcher stood out for his energy behind the plate throughout the hottest part of the day. Demonstrates ability to block balls with ease along with receiving well. The arm plays now, and should get stronger moving forward. He back-picked a runner at first base, and threw out another at second base on a steal attempt. |

Andres Cortes OF / 2B / Calvary Christian, FL / 2023Cortes is an athletic catcher who has a strong lower half. His hands worked well at the dish, connecting on a long double to LF. Behind the plate, Cortes is active and showed some soft hands with a decent arm. |
Anthony Sanguedolce OF / 1B / NA, FL / 20235-foot-5, 95-pound left-handed hitting center fielder and first baseman, undersized but athletically built. Barrel control type hitter, present bat speed, battled at the plate, fighting off pitches. |

Taylor Burdon C / 2B / Winter Haven, FL / 2023Burdon is an athletic outfielder that showed a nice approach at the plate. With runners in scoring position, Burdon showed maturity, taking a fastball to the opposite field gap. Burdon then showed some wheels stretching it into a double. Impressive display all the way around. |

Bryce Roth RHP / Osceola, FL / 2022Roth had one of the more impressive outings of the day, tossing 4 shutout innings against a very talented Cannons lineup. Roth is every bit of 6’0” and 175 and comes straight over the top. His fastball was sitting in the 77-78mph range. His go to pitch was a legitimate 12/6 curveball in the 62-63mph range. Roth used his breaking ball to keep the hitters off balance. It was a very impressive showing for Roth. |
Brighton Edsell 2B / Fort Myers, FL / 2022Edsell showed a good approach at the plate. His hands worked well at the plate and that was evident when he took a fastball to right center for a single. |
Bronson Sessa LHP / 1B / Cardinal Mooney, FL / 20225-foot-10, 145-pound left-handed pitcher, athletically built. Arm works continuously, long on the back-side to a high ¾ slot. Velo jump to come given arm action and athleticism. |

Robert Rodriguez OF / LHP / N/Y, FL / 2022Rodriguez is an impressive looking athlete, standing 6’2” and weighing 178 lbs. Rodriguez has a smooth left handed swing and a feel for the barrel. Defensively, he commanded center field and seemed to track down everything. Rodriguez will be an interesting player to follow in the future. |
Roger Vergera / St. Thomas Aquinas, FL / 2022Vergera was mentioned in the Day 1 Scout Blogs as a standout and he continued to impress today. Vergera shows very advanced actions at shortstop. He displays a quick first step with soft hands and plenty of arm. Offensively, he started to find his swing today, squaring a few balls. Vergera has a relaxed approach at the plate and has a knack to make the game look easy. |

5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder, lean, athletic frame, room for continued development. Offensively, stood out for his approach, swings the bat athletically, looks to drive the ball. |
Alex Walsh LHP / OF / Oxbridge academy, FL / 20226-foot-1, 145-pound left-handed pitcher, athletic, long, lanky frame. Arm works with some stiffness out of a ¾ slot, repeats delivery and slot well. A nightmare for left-handed hitters to a face. Fastball played at 74-77 mph with run. Curveball at 60-61. |

Zach McIntire LHP / 1B / N/A, FL / 2022Mcintire is a very long 6’3” right handed pitcher. Mcintire showed good arm strength, pumping his fastball in the 78-82mph range. Mcintire also showed a decent feel for a changeup in the 71-72mph range. |

Jack Owens SS / RHP / Bloomingdale, FL / 20225-foot-10, 150-pound infielder with a high-waist who plays the game with no fear. Blasted a deep home run over the left field fence to get his day started, and continued to drive balls over the course of two games. Weight rocks back with a knee-knock stride before his quick hands work the barrel noticeably uphill through the zone. Also showcased the ability to play second base at a high-level including a big bare-handed, charging play.

Brody Donay C / 3B / Lakeland Christian, FL / 2022Rankings StateRank: 41 / POS: 5
Donay stands out amongst peers simply due to his size. An athletic 6’3 catcher, Donay showed flexibility and soft hands behind the plate. He also showed he can catch and throw, gunning down a runner at 2nd base in Game 1. Offensively, he shows loose hips and soft hands. As his body continues to mature and more strength is added, Donay could prove to be a high level catcher. |
Colby Shelton SS / 2B / Bloomingdale , FL / 2022Every tournament, you look for a guy to really show out and make a name for himself. Shelton has been that guy. He has had one of the more impressive weekends so far. A left handed hitting infielder, he shows soft hands and good footwork and made numerous plays ranging to his right and left. Offensively is where Shelton really stood out. Shelton really slows the game down offensively and tracks the ball well with impressive balance. Early in Game 1, he drove a double over the centerfielder’s head. Later in the game, Shelton hit a loud double off the 375’ sign on the right centerfield wall, all while using a wood bat. Shelton really helped himself this weekend and will definitely be a guy to follow. |
Fulton Lockhart RHP / 3B / Newsome, FL / 2022Lockhart came in late in the game and really caught our attention. Standing 6’2, Lockhart sat 82-84 with riding life through the zone. He also snapped off some big 11/5 curveballs with impressive depth. Still maturing and should have much more to come. |

Marek Houston SS / Venice, FL / 2022Listed at 5-foot-9, 155-pounds, Houston’s legs appear to go up to his chest, and he still shows plenty of room to fill out and mature physically. Features crisp, more polished actions at shortstop that include confident hands and a quick release with some arm strength present. He smacked three hits in game one, having no issue battling from behind in the count, and the line drive power that he possesses now will only be bolstered as he gets stronger in the future. Winner-type. |
Kamron Gelwick SS / OF / Calvary Christian, FL / 2022Listed as an infielder, the high-waisted, 5-foot-9, 145-pounder played centerfield and hopped on the mound, which only helped to highlight his athleticism even further. Moves well side to side with a bounce in his step, and features some twitch to the hands at the plate with a whippy barrel. The ball comes of his barrel a bit louder, and he does not get cheated with each swing. Smacked a single to left field in game one. An interesting prospect on the mound, sat 79-81 from a higher ¾ slot in the windup, out of the stretch sat 75-76. Curveball played at 69-71. |
Dylan Peck 3B / SS / Bishop Verot, FL / 20225-foot-9, 165-pound two-way prospect, athletic build, should see a jump in velocity. Athleticism shows in overall delivery, continuous arm action from a high ¾ slot, will drop down to sidearm at-times, creates deception and keeps the batter guessing. Fastball sat 77-79. |

Stone Russell SS / 2B / IMG Academy, FL / 2023Russell was mentioned as one of the standouts from Day 1 in our Day 1 Scout Blogs and he picked up right where he left off yesterday. Despite playing up a year, Russell composes himself as if he is one of the best players on the field, and he usually is. Lean, athletic frame, Russell starts tall in the box and has a mature, center approach. He handled facing the hard throwing Ostingers pitchers with relative ease, hitting a loud double and triple along with a single up the middle. Russell has been one of the more impressive players through the first two days. |
Samuel Hernandez C / 3B / Lake Gibson, FL / 2022Rankings StateRank: 90 / POS: 11
Hernandez is still on the shorter side, but that’s about the only part of his game that is small. Hernandez has some big time pop for his age and he showed it in game, one hopping the left field fence for a 3 run double in Game 1. Hernandez has great barrel awareness and seems to square up the ball every time he swings the bat. As he continues to get taller and his body continues to mature, Hernandez could find himself being among the best power hitters around. |

Changeup at 71-72, breaking ball played in the upper 60s. |

Generates plenty of power with swing, makes hard contact routinely. Showed ability to drive the ball from gap-to-gap. Good hand eye and strong wrists as he fought off a tough left-on-left matchup, muscling an inside fastball to left field against Zach Root (Florida Burn Platinum). |
Amai Rivera-Martinez 1B / LHP / Northeast, FL / 2022Rivera-Martinez definitely passes the eye test, standing 6’2” and a lean 160 lbs. Offensively, he has a smooth left handed swing that has slight loft and is conducive to power. In game, Rivera-Martinez showed a glimpse of that power by scorching a loud double off the right field wall. As his body continues to fill out, Rivera-Martinez could turn into your prototypical left handed power hitting first baseman. |
Samuel Cole SS / RHP / Alonso, FL / 2022Cole started on the mound in Game 1 and really impressed. Standing 6’2”, Cole comes at the hitter with a bit of a short arm action. Cole showed plus command all game with minimal effort while sitting 80-82 with his fastball. He also showed command of a breaking ball in the 67-68mph that had decent shape. As he continues to fill out, he should add more velocity. Cole was very impressive today, keeping a talented Florida Burn Platinum team in check. |

john barreto 2B / OF / Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate, FL / 20225-foot-8, 155-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder, athletic build with some swagger to his game. Caught our eye first for his defensive play up the middle, showed fluid footwork, awareness around the bag and soft hands. Arm played with enough strength to stick on the left-side of the infield for years to come. Continued to impress as we got a look offensively, smooth, athletic swing. |

Max Resnick OF / SS / N/A, FL / 2022Resnick provided one of the more athletic plays of the day, leaping to catch a line drive at shortstop and then tagging the runner leading off second base while still in the air. Resnick showed athletic actions and some soft hands defensively. Offensively, Resnick showed strong wrists and quick hands. He had some bad luck at the plate today, but showed the ability to find the barrel. |
