Cape Cod- One of the highest-profile freshmen in college baseball this past spring, Bowser put together a strong debut campaign, hitting .302/.361/.487 with seven homers and 16 doubles in 199 at-bats for Stanford's Omaha club. He struggled with wood bats this summer at Y-D, hitting just .194 with one homer and two doubles in 72 at-bats, along with 28 strikeouts against 11 walks. But he's clearly a marquee prospect for the 2023 draft, and he should benefit from his first taste of Cape League competition. A 6-foot-4, 220-pound hulking righthanded hitter, Bowser sets up in the box with an open stance and his front heel lifted well of the ground and pivoted toward the pitcher in a manner that evokes Dwight Evans. He holds the bat in an vertical position with high hands and uses a short stride, but he could perhaps benefit from some simplification in his setup. He turned a corner later in the summer when he dropped his bat over his shoulder, helping him get his bat through the zone quicker and pull the ball with more authority to left field. He showed the ability and willingness to work deep counts and take walks, but we did not see him drive the ball the way he is capable of doing. We also need more looks to evaluate his defensive ability at the hot corner, as he DHed and played first base in our looks. A high school shortstop, Bowser's athleticism, feet and instincts should play at the hot corner, where he has a good arm. He still has work to do on defense, but he's dedicated to improving himself in all facets of his game, and his ceiling is very high.
4/3/18 - 4/6/18 - Hammered a deep home run, turning around 91. Reverse toe-tap type with uphill strength and quickness. Frame is starting to fill out a bit more, and he should be an impressive frame by the time he is a senior. Still boyish. Looks very pretty on the infield with coached-up movements that border on being robotically-good. Made a nice charging play and threw a couple others away. Arm plays slightly above average right now. I thought he was a single-plane swinger, but he made some adjustments the second game and he is going to continue to get better at the plate.
