5/23/23

The Pac-12 regular season home run champ also made a big impact in the batter’s box during the tournament, including a 3-for-4, six RBI performance against Stanford. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound left handed slugger barreled balls all week and was much better vs RHPs than LHPs. Competed in the box, but was challenged against left handed spin. Top exit velocity was 108.5. Has lowered his strikeout rate to below 15% this spring from 22.8% in 2022 while increasing his ISO to .388 from .294 last  season. Fair defender in left field. Had balls hit his way early and often against Oregon State as nearly a dozen balls came his way. Showed average strength and his arm played down a grade due to a long transfer and release. Above average runner underway, but plays less on the bases with long rounds and poor turns. Will likely be selected within the top 20 overall picks.

Cape CodOne of the top athletes for the 2023 draft, Davis brings exciting tools to the middle of the diamond. Spending several weeks with the Collegiate National Team before arriving in the Cape, Davis launched 18 homers for the Wildcats this past spring. A plus runner with a big arm, he impressed in the big field on defense and put together a .212/.379/.250 slash in 52 at-bats for Wareham. His contact rate next spring will be key in determining his ultimate draft value, but both the tools and raw production point to Davis as a high follow with a chance to draw Day One attention with a strong spring.

USA CNT TRIALS: Tooled-up talent who launched 18 homers for the Wildcats this spring and put both his physical and baseball abilities on display during trials. A plus runner with a big arm, he impressed on the grass and also made lots of hard contact against quality USA arms, including several very loud outs that could have easily boosted his .250/.400/.250 slash line over those five games. Contact rate next spring will be key in determining his ultimate draft value, but both the tools and raw production point to Davis as a high follow with a chance to garner day one attention with a strong spring.

Arizona commit; had a big game vs Cosumnes Oaks. He was the DH in this one (no alarming reason) and had the two big swings of the bat for Franklin, both doubles. We've broken him down a few times before and seeing him vs more high quality pitching paints a broader picture. He's long and strong and athletically built (6-foot-1, 210-pounds) and has presence at the plate. Davis stands considerably off the plate and looks to get lots of extension in his swing. The set-up and swing path and talent all brings Carlos Gonzalez to mind. He will occasionally swing and miss and can get a little big in positive counts but he's also got the ability to hunt and do damage. There are some spots to pitch him and have success but balls up and out over the plate get hammered, as his first double did, over the centerfielder's head and something thrown down and in can get raked to right field, which describes his second double. He's capable of competing vs good pitchers and having success and what takes him to another level is what he can do with mistakes.

3/01/19

vs Buchanan HS - Arizona commit, went 0-for-3 w/3 K but it wasn't due to being overmatched or out-talented, rather, it seemed that he was excited and perhaps over-amped to compete in what was a premier match-up of two of California's top teams. His set-up and swing both resemble Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies. Frequently chased pitches up (K on CHG, K on FB up, K on CB up) and took himself out of a good approach. He was on a couple of pitches and just missed them, fouling the ball straight back, and facing a high-quality left-hander like T.J. Fondtain isn't an easy task for a junior left-handed hitter like Davis. The bat speed is clearly present and the power is real, I've seen it. There is some tendency to let the barrel leave the zone a bit early and to not stay through the middle, but the tools are undeniable. Defensively he didn't have to do much in the game, but in the pre-game he unleashed a couple of throws home that were 95 and 92 mph on the gun.

10/22/18

Arizona commit, seems to get better every time he steps to the plate, and he was unfazed being an underclassman at the event. The strong, 6-foot-1, 207-pound left-handed hitter collected two hits for the MLB Breakthrough Series including a no doubt home run to deep right field. Davis has quickly introduced himself to the scouting community as a name to know for 2020.

8/13/18

Uncommitted. Davis is physically-gifted at 6-foot-1, 200-pounds with defined strength throughout, and showcased easy lag in the zone while driving the ball from gap to gap with minimal effort. Utilizing a leg hang, his hands load down and back before working flat through the zone. There looks to be even more power that will emerge in the near future.

8/13/18

Uncommitted, 6-foot-1, 200-pounds, Davis’ has a strong, athletic frame, has a controlled swing through the zone on a flat path, his natural strength should continue allowing him to gain even more power in the future. Davis smoked a triple into the right-centerfield gap in his first at-bat, and finished with a single later on in the game.

8/12/18

Arizona commit; Large frame showing strong upper half with current muscle in sloped, wide shoulders and long arms/legs; mature build with limited projection, but very strong and physical body. Open stance with high hands and bat bouncing off his back; swing has a lot of similarities to Carlos Gonzales (COL) in way he sets up and loads pre-pitch. Uses a foot lift/hang to keep hands/hip back behind the ball; regularly on time while moving hands into back shoulder and staying behind ball and driving to full extension at contact. Showed off plus bat speed with ability to create easy loft from his pull side approach; during BP showed off current raw power as bat has an extra ability to barrel balls and get them to carry to deepest parts of field. Bat showed off all weekend with multiple extra-base hits into pull gap. Short quick stride plays up in all facets of the game; regularly 4.2, 4.3 home-to-first with ability to score from first, put pressure on defense and take bases as needed. Showed off instincts on the bases with a ball that hopped one/two feet away from catcher and score standing from 3rd base; first step is very quick and explosive both on bases and in OF. Defensively showed off CF glove in both CF and RF; easy range to both sides of the field and ability to track down balls that should be hits. Above average arm showing life through cut man and extra carry from both CF/RF; compact arm with above average footwork and quick release. One of the top 2020 players in NorCal.

3/28/18

Uncommitted as of this viewing;  Saw him play two games at spring tournament; One of Northern California's top 2020 players and also rates well on a national scale. Big, strong, fast, athletic 6-foot-1 205-pound young athlete, will be common for him to be the best athlete on the baseball field throughout his high school career. Excellent speed and range in CF with a strong arm, with lots of upside as he continues to mature. His bat has electric pop, he hit a home run into right field that left the yard quickly with loud contact. Consistent hard contact will come in time as he develops understanding of his own fundamental approach, particularly learning how to use his lower half better. For now, electric fast hands and lots of athleticism allow him to have success. The ceiling is HIGH! 4.4 runner down the line.
