Game Notes (CA): #14 Franklin at #10 Buchanan
March 7, 2019
CLOVIS, CA - The Central California Showcase tournament created a big time early season match-up between two teams expected to contend for their D1 section titles. The Franklin Wildcats out of the Sac-Joaquin Section and powerful Delta League traveled to Clovis to take on the Buchanan Bears of the Central Section and the renowned Tri River Athletic Conference (TRAC).
Buchanan won the game 2-0, behind a stellar 5-inning outing from 2019 LHP T.J. Fondtain and two clean innings from 2019 LHP Marcelo Saldana to get the save. They got a first inning run on a double from 2019 SS Brady Hormel followed by an error by the 2nd baseman on a hard hit ball by Fondtain. That was all they would need. It wasn't easy though, as Franklin senior LHP Grant Stevens weaved his magic time and time again to wiggle out of jams and keep the Wildcats close. One mistake pitch by Stevens in the 6th inning to senior LF Miguel Ortiz provided the final tally, as a high change-up ended up beyond the trees in left field. It was a high intensity game and certainly fun to watch. Some well-known players were on display, as were some very talented uncommitted seniors and a crop of not as well-known (as of yet) underclassmen.
Video and reports and notable players inside include Brock Jones, Chase Davis, Brady Hormel, T.J. Fondtain, Temo Becerra, Zach Meddings, Carson Stevens, Grant Stevens, and Andres Galan.
