JUCO Gems: A 6-foot-4, 235-pound right-hander, Woessner, a Texas Wesleyan recruit, features a physically strong and durable pitcher's body. The ball comes out of his hand quick and easy, leading to 92-95 mph fastballs – he was up to 97 in his season debut – with plus late tail and good sink. He demonstrates present fastball command, throwing it with good life to both sides of the plate. Woessner throws quality fastballs in the zone and consistently misses barrels. His go-to secondary offering is an 82-85 mph slider that has a big, sharp, late break, with hard diving action. He throws many plus sliders and is tough on both RHH and LHH. Woessner also has feel for a changeup with deception and good late sink.
In addition to Woessner having the athleticism needed to repeat his delivery and command his pitches, he also exhibits a competitive edge and a knack for attacking hitters. If it all clicks for him, Woessner could become a possible top-of-the-rotation guy with plus, power-type stuff.
Arizona State/Central Arizona Signee. We have seen better stuff from the physical righty in the past, but there remains a lot to like. Closes himself off and gets shoulder tilt, not giving the hitter a clean look and giving himself a chance to pitch with plane and angle on his fastball. Showed heavy sink in the fall which wasn't as prevalent on this day, making the fastball a little lighter; sat 87-88, touching 89. Showed 81 mph changeup that has a chance to work as a plus pitch down the lines he's an early pronator. 73-75 mph curveball has lots of lateral break and could benefit from being thrown with more veto and turned into more of a slider or slurve.
Very powerful 6-foot-4 frame. Worked 88-90, touching 91 with a heavy fastball. Hard slider at 80-82. Early pronator has potential to develop a plus changeup down the line.
