Pinnacle @ DESERT MOUNTAIN 3/28/18
Tyler Woessner, 2018, RHP, Desert Mountain HS
Arizona State/Central Arizona Signee. We have seen better stuff from the physical righty in the past, but there remains a lot to like. Closes himself off and gets shoulder tilt, not giving the hitter a clean look and giving himself a chance to pitch with plane and angle on his fastball. Showed heavy sink in the fall which wasn't as prevalent on this day, making the fastball a little lighter; sat 87-88, touching 89. Showed 81 mph changeup that has a chance to work as a plus pitch down the lines he's an early pronator. 73-75 mph curveball has lots of lateral break and could benefit from being thrown with more veto and turned into more of a slider or slurve.
Wes Kath, 2021, IF, Desert Mountain HS
Uncommitted. Starting at 3B for the varsity as a freshman. Tremendously projectable body with long limbs and big feet. Has a chance to be physical presence as he continues to mature. Should run better as he grows into his body. Easy mover on defense with soft hands and a loss, whip arm that generates outstanding carry for a 2021 grad. Does not look out of place at all as we've seen him face Liberator and Woessner in the last week; not overwhelmed by velocity. Shows easy power on offense, launching a homer to the pull side with no effort or violence in swing and natural loft. High-level follow.
Trey Newman, 2019, C, Pinnacle
Uncommitted. Plays much bigger than diminutive frame would suggest. Shows bat speed and a solid middle of the field approach on offense. Plays with high-end energy. Solid defender provides low target with good flexibility. 2.1 pop in between innings with on-line carry. Interested to get a more extended look at the uncommitted junior.
