Madonna featured the long ball in defeating Oak Glenn 5-3 on Monday. The Golden Bears of Oak Glen opened the scoring in the first on an RBI single by Noah Fiecht (currently No. 38 in the WV Class of 2017 rankings). Trailing 1-0 Madonna got a single by Gavin Dietrich and home runs by both Mac Raymond and Tyler Wright (currently No. 22 in the WV Class of 2018 rankings and pictured below) to take a 5-3 lead.
The Golden Bears were able to tie the score at three in the fifth without a hit. Two walks, an error and a sacrifice fly did the damage. Madonna used some small ball in the sixth to establish their final margin of victory. Bunt singles by Simon Nero and Chayce Lemley accompanied by a conventional line drive Dom Mazur single plated two runs.
Mazur picked up the win for the Blue Dons in relief of Nick Paul. He threw 2.2 scoreless innings allowing two hits, no runs, no walks and struck out one. Multi-hit games were recorded by Dietrich and Oak Glen's Garrett Brewer who both singled twice.
