It is still extremely early, perhaps even premature, to be forecasting Class of 2020 prospects, especially since these freshmen have just begun to play their first high school innings. Then again, with the recent acceleration of recruiting, high-level 2020 prospects are already pledging their commitments to schools.
With that said, we have released the updated 2020 rankings, an expanded list of 100 prospects that have stood out among their peers. Certainly this list will change and evolve in time, as we know many players will grow, develop and mature. We also know that we likely haven’t seen many other 2020 prospects that may be deserving of this list.
However, we are confident that the players included in the list have extremely bright futures. Amazingly, 35 of the top 100 freshmen are already verbally committed, with many more sitting on offers.
It is important to note that the PBR overall rankings only reflect the states that we intimately cover from our boots-on-the-ground scouting staff. The Top 100 Class of 2020 rankings is comprised of our current 34-state coverage area.
Within the Prep Baseball Report coverage area, Virginia and Florida lead the way with five commitments, followed by Miami and Louisville, who each have four. Five of the top 10 prospects are verbally committed, though No. 1-ranked RHP/OF Nate Wohlgemuth (Owasso HS, OK) is still on the board. The physically impressive 5-foot-11, 195-pound Wohlgemuth is a power arm, running his fastball up to 93 mph this spring while showing an advanced three-pitch mix.
Not far behind Wohlgemuth is LHP Liam Norris (Green Hope HS, NC), a high-upside 6-foot-3, 185-pound left-hander with present stuff, evidenced by an outing this spring in which he topped at 91 mph with an advanced repertoire for his age. Two-way standout Aaron Nixon (McCallen HS, TX), OF Austin Hendrick (West Allegheny HS, PA), left-handed hitting C Jackson Miller (JW Mitchell HS, FL), RHP Jared Kelley (Refugio HS, TX) and RHP Victor Mederos (Coral Reef Senior HS, FL) all hold firm in the top 10.
New to the top 10 are OF Robert Hassell (Independence HS, TN, a sweet-swinging left-handed hitting Tennessee recruit, RHP Albert Hernandez (Archbishop McCarthy HS, FL) and SS Tanner Witt (Episcopal HS, TX).
Outside the top 10, big risers include: RHP/OF Max Carlson (Burnsville HS, MN), RHP/SS Mac Horvath (Rochester Century HS, MN), C Jack Bulger (DeMatha HS, MD), SS/RHP Cade Horton (Norman HS, OK), RHP Nick Hammer (Washington Township HS, NJ), RHP Gage Bradley (Rossview HS, TN), C Kyle Teel (Mahwah HS, NJ), OF Mackenzie Wainwright (Saint Edward HS, OH), and RHP Alex Santos (Mount St. Michael Academy, NY), to name a few.
Enough reading about it. See for yourself.
