Wednesday night was a pretty night for the Liberty District semifinals as Langley traveled to take on top-seeded McLean. Both teams went with righthanders to start the game, with the Saxons tabbing 2025 Nick Newburn to start and the Highlanders going with senior Evan Fontaine.
McLean jumped on the board in the first inning courtesy of an Ethan Ball RBI single. The Highlanders pushed the lead to 5-0 with a four run third, with the big blows coming off the bats of Jakob Luu and Ball again. Fontaine was good and did a good job of working out of trouble in each of the first four innings, not letting Langley get on the board despite runners reaching in each inning and multiple runners in a few of them.
Ultimately, McLean would continue to extend the lead with 3 in the fifth and end the game with 2 in the sixth to wrap up a 1-0 win and advance to Friday's District Championship game against Yorktown. In the game, Fontaine went 5 innings of shutout 3-hit ball with 7 strikeouts. Luu went 2-4 with a 2B and an RBI and Ball went 3-4 with a 2B and 2 RBI. Scott Coker was 2-3 for Langley.
