Tuesday night saw public school opening week continue with a Prince William County matchup of teams that are expected to have a chance to go deep in Region 6B this spring. Both teams went with senior righty starters, with Battlefield starting Carson Estridge (West Virginia) and Forest Park going with Andrew Cheripka (Bluefield State). Both pitchers threw well, but Estridge allowed just 4 hits over 6 innings with 6 strikeouts and no walks. Cheripka did strike out 9 in 5 innings of work.

Battlefield was able to open up a 3-0 lead early and then hang on behind a dominant performance from Estridge and senior Jack Robinson (Roanoke), who closed the game out. Junior Carson Cho had the big blow for the Bobcats with 2 RBI triple that extended their lead to 3-0. Kehler Hamilton was 2-3 with an RBI as well for Battlefield.

Take a look at video and notes on a few players from Tuesday night's game.

Battlefield:

Carson Cho SS / RHP / Battlefield, VA / 2023

Carson Estridge RHP / 1B / Battlefield , VA / 2022

Estridge is a West Virginia commit and is 6-7 with a long lankier athletic frame, projection left as he continues to fill out his frame. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot, long loose arm action that is quick, some late effort in his delivery and finishes with fall off and recoil. Fastball was 88-90 in the first, 87-89, touching 91 in the second, and then settled into 86-89 for the rest of his outing. His height and arm length creates natural downward angle on the pitch, he showed some late cutting action on it most of the night as well. Held his velocity when in the stretch, which he didn't go into until the middle of the game. Showed two offspeed pitches, a curveball that mostly had sharp 10/4 break to it. Tilt adjusted on it some, found his feel for it in the later innings, showed ability to throw it for a strike or to bury it for a swing, pitch ran 65-69, also adjusted speed to make it bigger later in game. Other offspeed pitch was a splitter with late hard dive and run and good armspeed, pitch was 75-76, got a few swing and misses but was used sparingly.

Jack Robinson RHP / Battlefield, VA / 2022

Grayson Snead 2B / OF / Battlefield, VA / 2023

Snead is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame that has some room to add strength. At second base, smooth actions and above average hands, short arm action. At the plate, balanced athletic stance from a slightly open stance. Short swing, hands stay inside, level path. Line drive hitter, uses whole field, potential to show some power in the middle of the field now with a chance to add more as he adds strength.

JP Williams C / 1B / Battlefield , VA / 2023

Williams is a George Mason commit. Athletic 6-2 frame with plenty of projection left. Behind the plate, was fine catching Estridge and Robinson, didn't cost them any strikes and looked comfortable receiving both of them. Showed some sway and ability to present a strike. At the plate, athletic stance, short to ball with some strength at contact. Works uphill through contact and shows some power to his pull side with a chance to access more as he continues to fill out. Showed a pull mindset during the game and got pitched tough in the three-hole.

Forest Park:

Andrew Cheripka RHP / 1B / Forest Park , VA / 2022

Jack Pokorak 1B / 3B / Forest Park, VA / 2022

Pokorak is a High Point commit. Strong physical frame. Very short swing, shows power to all fields. Three at-bats this evening against Estridge, went 1-3 with a strikeout. In his first at-bat, he was just off time of a fastball and flew out to center. In his third at-bat, he worked a deep count before sharply grounding a base hit into centerfield on a fastball. Comfortable in the box and has a clear approach of what he is trying to do early in the count. Played third early in the game and then pitched as well, was 78-82 when pitching.
