Session I of the Preseason All-State showcase was held on Sunday, February 10 at the Virginia Sports Complex. Over 70 players from around the Commonwealth were in attendance to perform in front of the PBR Scouting staff.

In this week's PBR VA/DC Podcast, we discussed our thoughts on over 45 players who stood out at Session I of the Preseason All-State. Today we highlight ten players who made the biggest impression in their first time in front of our full scouting staff. Look for a second Rapid Reaction tomorrow to discuss players who we had seen previously.

 

Zackary Chadwell RHP / 1B / Hickory, VA / 2021 Chadwell has a big 6-4 frame that still has projection left to it. At the plate he has some strength and showed an exit velocity of 90, showed good approach working gap to gap. On the mound, his fastball was 79-81 and he showed some feel for his offspeed. His arm action is free and he has a chance to add velocity as he continues to get stronger.

Casey Cook SS / RHP / Freedom (South Riding), VA / 2021 Cook is a UNC commit and has a very projectable athletic frame. He hits from the left side and has a simple swing that is balanced and quick, he showed quick hands and a good approach, working the middle of the field with line drives and the potential to add power as he adds strength. At short, he is athletic and smooth with a gifted set of hands. Loose arm that was 83 across the infield, quick laterally with good feet.

Michael Dailey OF / Prince Edward, VA / 2022 Dailey is 5-10 with a lanky frame that has a ton of projection and room to add strength. He showed some quick twitch and some batspeed, with an exit velocity of 83. Will be a very interesting prospect to follow as he continues to develop.

Derek Furr OF / LHP / Westfield, VA / 2020 Furr showed some two-way potential. On the mound, he was 78-81 with a smooth arm action and feel for a breaking ball. At the plate, he showed a short swing and was quick to the ball, line drive gap to gap approach that has the potential to generate some carry in the gaps, his exit velocity was 85.

Josiah Harrison OF / RHP / Clover Hill, VA / 2021 Harrison is on the short list for most standout day of the players in this story and is a prospect with an incredibly high upside. He has an athletic frame with a strong lower half and projection left to it. On the mound, he was 80-84 with a very fast arm. His arm played up from the outfield, touching 87. He also has a very fast bat and explosive lower half, exit velocity was 87 and he has the potential for some real power.

Garret Huffman 3B / RHP / Rockbridge Co., VA / 2021 Huffman has an athletic frame with a lot of projection left to it. At the plate, he has strength at contact and generates a lot of natural lift with his quick bat, his exit velocity was 85. Also showed his athleticism on the mound with feel for three pitches.

Nick Lottchea OF / LHP / Westfield , VA / 2021 Like his teammate Furr, Lottchea showed some strong two-potential on the day. On the mound, he was 76-77 and showed two different breaking balls. At the plate, he has a short quiet swing and gets uphill through the ball, generating loft. Strong at contact with gap power potential as he continues to fill out.

Nathaniel Mack RHP / 1B / Tabb, VA / 2020 Mack is an incredibly lanky 6-3 with a ton of room to add strength to his frame. His fastball was 82-83 and and his arm works and is free. He has some feel for his secondary stuff and still has a ton of upside as he continues to develop.

Christopher Mitchell Jr. SS / OF / Nansmond River, VA / 2020 Mitchell has a lanky projectable frame with nice athleticism and quick twitch. The Nansmond River prospect showed well defensively moving well around the field with good hands and showed some strength and bat speed at the plate. There is still plenty of growth to be made as he fills out his frame that could transform into aphysical prospect.

Ed Wagner SS / RHP / Highland, VA / 2021 Wagner is 6-5 with an athletic frame that still has plenty of projection left to it. He had arguably the most eye-catching day of any of the prospects that we hadn't seen at Session I. On the mound, his fastball was 81-85 and showed secondary stuff that has potential with an arm action that suggests he has more in the tank. Very strong at the plate with power present and more to come, exit velocity was 92. Arm on the infield was strong, 88 across the diamond.
