The Diamondskills All American Camp was held over three weekends in the month of January. Georgetown Preparatory School was the host is their large indoor facility on campus. Well over 100 players were in attendance to perform in front of the PBR Scouting Staff as well as colleges from across the region.
We continue our player evaluation breakdowns from the event. We have already done catchers, outfielders, and infielders. Next stop is the pitcher position with over 20 players involved. We will break down the top performers from the event by class, followed by the complete evaluations from every primary pitcher that performed at the event.

James Staedt, RHP, Frontier (NY) 2020
6-foot, 182-pound strong frame. Slow but rhythmic pace on the delivery. Small rocker step to a down and out delivery landing slightly closed. Balance point was a bit inconsistent and rushed at times. Had a longer arm action, but the arm was fast getting through with some strength and speed to a low three-quarter arm slot. Fastball sat 82-84 mph on the day and had trouble locating at times, but it showed a ton of life and explosiveness through the zone. Curveball had a tight 11/5 shape and he threw it with good arm speed for a late hard break. Makings of a plus swing and miss pitch. 60 time was 7.84
Alex Elliot, RHP/3B, River Hill 2020
6-foot-1, 170-pound long frame with some room to grow. Delivery is smooth with a slower controlled pace. Reaches a consistent balance point before landing slightly closed. Has a longer arm action with quick arm speed and throws from a high three-quarter arm slot. Falls off slightly to first base side. Fastball was 77-79 and had some late life getting through the zone. Breaking ball has a slider look with a tight 10/4 shape. Had a feel for the changeup with a tendency to slow down the delivery and arm. At the plate showed an upright stance, toe tap to stride, landing closed. Hands got through the zone quick with an uphill path to the bat. Exit velo was 74 mph. Played tall defensively, hands were loose and free, with a clean exchange. Showed the ability to get it out quick when moving laterally, throwing from a low three-quarter arm slot. Positional velocity was 78 mph. Posted a 7.40 60 time.
2021
Brian Ferreira, RHP, Huntingtown 2021
5-foot-10, 170-pound athletic build. Pace of delivery has some build-up after a side step to initiate the delivery. Shows a short arm action with quick arm speed throwing from a low three-quarter arm slot. Fastball sat between 80-82 mph with some arm side run. Changeup showed arm speed and intent with some late fade and should pair well with the fastball. Curveball showed 11/5 shape while being thrown at 59-60 mph with hard late action. Ran a 7.57 60.
Jacob Zuniga, RHP/3B, Good Counsel 2021
5-foot-9, 145-pound athletic frame. On the mound showed a balanced wide setup with a rocker step from the windup. Slower controlled pace to the delivery and picks up the pace post balance point. Sinks in the bag leg and shows a drop and drive type delivery landing slightly closed. Long arm circle that gets behind, but arm was up at stride and showed arm speed getting it through. Throws from a low three-quarter slot with some late arm side run on the fastball at 76-79 mph touching 80 mph. Curveball was tight and hard with 11/5 shape and solid arm speed. Changeup was thrown at 71-73 mph and had late fade. At the plate stance was square and small leg lift to striding forward and on line. Hands load back with an arm bar and bat wraps. Short to contact, heads tends to drift forward on contact, and bat stays through extension. Exit velo was 79 mph. On defense presented a prep hop on contact, attacked through the ball, soft hands at catch, long arm action, and threw from a low three-quarter arm slot. 60 time was 7.37.
2022
Brendan Thomas, RHP, DeMatha Catholic 2022
6-foot, 145-pound thin projectable frame. From the windup showed a fluid delivery with a solid balance point and consistent mechanics. Positive hip tilt with shoulders uphill moving down the mound. Down and out approach moving toward home and landing slightly closed. Arm action is longer, but had some arm speed getting through and throwing from a low three-quarter arm slot with a recoil at finish. Fastball sat at 71-73 mph and topped at 74 mph. The fastball showed some life with late arm side run. Changeup had some late fade and showed good arm speed on the pitch. Curveball didn’t have much shape, but he had good arm speed on the pitch and a 64-67 mph velocity. The frame and arm speed make him an arm to watch for as he adds some weight and strength over the next year or two. Ran the in 7.83.

Kasey Baumgart, LHP, Calvert Hall 2019
6-foot, 185-pound solid frame. Delivery is fluid and balanced with level shoulders. Has a short deceptive over the top arm slot with average arm speed. Lands slightly closed at foot strike. Low effort repeatable delivery landing in a solid fielding position. Maintains arm speed and arm action on all three pitches. FB 71-74. Displayed ability to throw the fastball to both sides of the plate with some late fade to the arm side. CB 58-61. Curveball has a 1/7 shape and stayed around the zone. 60 time 7.66
Owen Brill, LHP, Poolesville 2020
6-foot, 160-pound long frame. Easy slower paced delivery from the windup. Lower balance point before moving down the mound to landing slightly closed and head falls off towards the 3B side. Shoulders are level as he moves towards home and transitions to short quick arm circle throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot. Fastball was 72-73 mph.
Tyler Brooks, RHP, St. John’s College 2020
6-foot-1, 165-pound lanky athletic frame. Sets up closed, but lands in line. Longer arm action with average arm speed throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot. Shoulders are slightly uphill as he moves down the mound from an easy low effort delivery. Finishes with a small recoil. FB was 70-74 and topped at 75 mph. Had a feel for all three pitches, keeping good arm speed on the changeup, and curveball had a late 11/5 shape.
Nathan Farmer, LHP, Linganore 2020
5-foot-7, 160-pound compact frame. Slower controlled delivery to slightly crouched at the balance point. Shoulders stay level throughout delivery with a down and out stride landing on line. Arm was long and threw from a low three-quarter arm slot. Fastball was 67-69 mph with some arm side run. Curveball was 57-59 mph showing 1/7 shape and a bigger break. Knuckle ball was 55-57 mph.
Zack Gibney, RHP, Good Counsel 2020
6-foot-1, 160-pound long lanky frame. Fluid delivery with a side step to a high balance point. Has a more down and out look to stride landing in line. Hands break high and get to a shorter quick arm action with average arm speed throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Fastball sat around 74-76 mph and got up to 78 mph a few times. Curveball had a tight break with a 10/4 shape. 60 time was 7.78.
Brendin Harris, RHP/2B, Arundel 2021
5-foot-10, 136-pound long thin frame. Athletic stance that starts in line and finishes in line after a small leg kick. Hands load with rhythm, short bat path with a level swing that will produce some line drives as the barrels stays through the hitting zone to extension. Exit velo was 73 mph. Feet are active on approach and go quiet just before the catch. Arm action is short and throws from a high three-quarter slot with a 72 mph positional velocity. Delivery is fluid and reaches a consistent common balance point with a long stride to foot strike landing slightly closed. Average arm speed from an over the top slot. Fastball was 70-71 mph. Changeup had good life with present arm speed and appeared to be a legitimate out pitch. Slider had tight 10/4 shape and appeared to have feel for it. Curveball had a little more depth with 11/5 shape. Ran the 60 in 7.64.
Mitchel Johnson, RHP/3B, Georgetown Prep 2021
Big strong body at 6-foot-2, 210-pounds. Upright closed stance with a pronounced leg kick landing closed. Hands are back at foot strike, bat has an uphill path to a high finish. Swing shows some power and strength with an exit velo of 83 mph. Approaches on the outside of the ball, works low at catch with hands out front. Brings hands low to center for a clean exchange, long arm action throwing from a low three-quarter arm slot at 73 mph. Side step windup delivery with fluid rhythm to a high balance point. Strides open to a low three-quarter arm slot with average arm speed. From the stretch has a wider open base landing slightly open at foot strike. Fastball showed some arm side run at 71-73 mph. Curveball had tight 10/4 shape and showed ability to throw it for strikes at 60-61 mph. Changeup had present arm speed with some late fade at 66-67 mph. 60 time was 8.25.
Patrick Knapp, RHP/3B, Avalon 2021
5-foot-10, 145-pound compact frame. Narrow upright open stance, leg kick to landing in line at foot strike, hands are loose and load back to an arm bar. Swing has a slight uphill plane with a shorter bat path, lower half finishes completely. Exit velo was 82 mph. Works outside the groundball with soft hands catching the ball deep. Throws out of a high three-quarter slot with the ability to change angles with the plays. Positional velo was 73 mph. On the mound showed a small rocker step from the windup, from the stretch has narrow upright setup. From windup higher balance point to landing in line falling to the 1B side. From the stretch uses more of a slide step home landing in line. Postures up at hand break to a short quick arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Fastball worked at 71-73 mph staying down in zone and showed ability to locate arm side. Curveball showed present arm speed with tight 11/5 shape at 62-63 mph. Ran the 60 in 7.95.
Evan Mathieu, RHP/3B, Quince Orchard 2022
5-foot-6, 165-pound compact frame. Side step windup delivery that has some effort. High leg kick to balance with a drop and drive look to it. Lands closed with a slight arm recoil on finish. Fastball was at 70-72 mph and showed the ability to locate glove side. Curveball had some arm speed with 11/5 shape, changing planes at 53-55 mph. Arm action was short and showed some arm speed throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Defensively has a wide pre-pitch setup, gets outside the ball, and fields on heels. Rhythm glove tap exchange with a back foot skip to release. Throws with a short arm action from a high three-quarter arm slot at 72 mph. Ran the 60 in 8.31.
Austin Olszewski, LHP/OF, Leonardtown 2021
5-foot-9, 160-pound solid compact frame. Upright stance with small pick up to stride landing on line with balance. Hands load back and drop slightly before moving through the zone. Bat path is short and flat and stays through extension. Exit velo was 77 mph. Feet are short and active into the catch. Hands are soft on reception, clean exchange, long arm action, and throws from a high three-quarter at 69 mph. Ran the 60 in 7.50. On the mound delivery is fluid to a strong balance point gathered over the rubber. Lands on line, rotates around the front leg as glove and head fall off slightly to 3B side. Throws from a high three-quarter arm slot with average arm speed. Fastball sat at 67-69 mph and showed ability to throw it to both sides of the plate. Changeup was 58-60 mph and showed feel for it, consistently keeping it down in the zone.
Noah Potholm, RHP/SS, Gonzaga 2022
6-foot, 165-pound long athletic frame. Easy delivery with low effort from the mound. Low balance point with a short deceptive arm action to a low three-quarter arm slot. Fastball showed arm side run at 72 mph. Two seam also showed some late swing back action. Curveball had more of a slurve action to it changing planes as well as significant side to side break. Ran the 60 in 7.63. Upright on line stance with a knee to knee load landing slightly closed. Hands are back at foot strike and ready to fire to a level bat path and an upright finish. Hips finish completely and posted a 78 mph exit velo. Feet are active and gain ground on catch. Hands are soft to a clean exchange. Arm action is short to a low three-quarter arm slot with throws at 72 mph across.
Jake Sclafani, RHP, Georgetown Prep 2022
Solid 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame. Loose rhythmic delivery with low effort. Hands set high on break and moves to a drop and drive type movement home. Head stays behind and maintains balance throughout landing closed at foot strike. Arm action is long and throws out of a low three-quarter arm slot. Showed some arm side run and the fastball stayed to the arm side for a majority of the pitches. 60 time was 8.01.
Anthony Smith, RHP, Archbishop Curley 2021
Solid 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame. From the windup is relaxed with a small rocker step to a high balance point with flexion in back leg. Strides down and out landing on line. Arm action is quick and short throwing from a three-quarter slot. Fastball was at 71-73 mph with some arm side run. Seemed to have a feel for the 2-seam fastball and was able to stay behind it a little longer and get more late action. Arm speed slowed a little on the changeup, but it had some late fade to it and should make for nice secondary pitch. Curveball was at 60-61 mph. Ran the 60 in 7.40.
Noah Smith, RHP, Churchill 2020
Athletic open setup on the mound. Belt high lift to balance with a down and out movement down the mound landing open at foot strike.Would benefit from a more complete finish of the lower half with the back leg getting through. Arm action is short and quick throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot. Fastball sat between 65-68 mph and showed some sink at times. The breaking ball showed two different shapes one being a slower bigger breaking 11/5 curveball and the second being a tight later 10/4 slider. Had the ability to throw both for strikes. 60 time was 7.59.
Gavyn Soto, RHP, Business of Sport School (NY) 2020
6-foot, 155-pound long rangy frame. Upright delivery that has some rhythm and pace. High balance point, slightly open gate with lead leg, and a down and out stride home landing closed. Shoulders and hips are level as they move forward, short arm circle to a high three-quarter arm slot that showed some arm speed. Stayed behind the fastball and showed some carry through the zone sitting at 75-78 mph and touching 80. Breaking ball was tight and late with present arm speed and 11/5 shape, also showed some swing and miss potential.
Dominic Valis, LHP/1B, St. John’s College Prep 2021
5-foot-10, 155-pound solid frame. Upright on line stance, hands load back with a slight upper body coil, bat wrap, and strides in closed. Bat is short to contact with a level path producing line drives. Lower half finishes with some aggression. Exit velo was 80 mph. Feet work around the bag, soft hands on the catch, and a clean exchange. Throws from a wider base with a long arm action and releases from a three-quarter slot. Positional velocity is 70 mph. Ran the 60 in 7.49.
Jonah Weiner, RHP, Wilson (DC) 2021
Solid 5-foot-8, 155-pound frame. On the mound starts closed off and lift to a crouched balance point and a very deep drop and drive forward. Lands open at foot strike and arm action is short and quick releasing from a high three-quarter release. Fastball sat at 67-69 mph and touched 71 mph a few times. Curveball sat 56-58 mph. Pushed the changeup at times, but showed some late fade on the pitch. Ran the 60 in 7.57.
Trey Weinroth, RHP, St. John’s College Prep 2020
Compact frame at 5-foot-6, 140-pounds. Athletic relaxed setup on the mound. Upper body coils creating some deception to an already tough delivery for hitters to pick up. Moves down the mound with upper body and shoulders parallel to the ground. Arm action is short and quick from a submarine arm slot. Showed ability to repeat mechanics and stay around the zone pretty consistently with multiple pitches. Fastball showed arm side run and sink while throwing it at 54-56 mph. The curveball had a 10/4 shape and was a solid secondary pitch. 60 time was 7.46
