Tennessee Insider: 2022 Uncommitted Pitchers
October 13, 2020
After our latest 2022 rankings edition now featuring 255 prospects from the Volunteer State, our scouting staff breaks down the top arms on the board. Five former members of Team TN at PBR Future Games sit amongst the top, but there are numerous arms making some noise as fall ball winds down and we prepare for 2021. Below we share scout notes and video on fourteen prospects (several two-ways) to follow in the TN 22' class.
Top Five
Logan Quales | RHP | Tennessee | 2022
Uncommitted; 6-foot-3, 195-pound long, lean frame with great projection and natural arm strength. Just scratching the surface of his potential after coming out of the pen for the East TN Crusaders this summer. Live fastball at 87-92 that comes out of the hand clean and beats barrels, occasional cut. Spins it really well, up to 2442 rpm (via Trackman) and sitting mostly north of 2100 rpm at PBR Future Games. Paired with a sweeping SL at 76-79 (1700-1900s rpm; Max: 1979 rpm via Trackman) with potential to be a quality off speed offering with some fine tuning. Heavy FB mix at this point, but a promising two-pitch sequence. Quales is the top uncommitted arm in the 22’ class and showed be interesting to see his growth as he tries to harness his stuff heading into 2021.
Jayden Davis | SS/RHP | Cookeville | 2022
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound two-way prospect. At the Future Games, Davis posted some gaudy numbers for Blast Motion with excellent bat speed (75.6 mph) and outstanding rotational acceleration (30.2 G) correlating with his gap to gap power (99.5 Exit Velo | 364 ft Distance via Trackman) and strong hit tool. The instinctive shortstop shows great hands and footwork while posting the top infield velo (94 mph) at Lakepoint during FG. Although a primary infielder, Davis threw relief this summer sitting 86-90, T91 (Up to 2593 rpm; mantaining 2200-2400s rpm via Trackman) to go with a sharp CB at 72-75 (Up to 2600 rpm; maintaining 2000-2400s rpm). Some frame limitation, but Davis has already shown high-ceiling value upside on both sides.
Brady Robertson | RHP | Trinity Christian Academy | 2022
Uncommitted; 6-foot-3, 165-pound long, lanky right-hander with great projection. Loose, fluid rhythm through delivery and maintains good body control while showing quick, whippy arm action. FB sat 85-89 with late life/action, spinning at 1900-2100 (Max: 2174 rpm via Trackman). Maintained velo deep into outings, showing some durability. Mixed a CB/SL at 71-75 with mostly biting 11/5 shape and decent spin (1800-2100s rpm; Max: 2228 rpm via Trackman). More CB at the moment, but should develop into a nice SL, which he can throw for strikes and bury for chase. Robertson looks to be a highly sought arm and big part of the Trinity Christian Academy staff in 2021.
Andrew Behnke | LHP | Donelson Christian | 2022
Uncommitted; 5-foot-9, 175-pound twitchy southpaw with slim, high-waisted frame. Good athlete with springy feet in the OF, but future is on the bump. Short, compact arm action with good quickness and repeatability in delivery. FB sits 84-87, T88 with great spin (Max: 2527 rpm at FG; sitting 2100-2400s rpm via Trackman). Throws a tight breaking ball at 70-75, manipulating CB/SL shape and speed. Throws it to both sides and spun it 2100-2300s rpm, topping 2457 rpm (via Trackman) at PBR Future Games. Draws a lot of swing n’ miss with the high spin capacity, and remains the top uncommitted lefty arm in the 22’ class.
Nick Correll | RHP | Knights Academy | 2022
Uncommitted; 6-foot-2, 195-pound right hander tossed two clean innings at the 2019 Future Games right after reclassifying to the 22’ class. Tall, lean frame with good projection. FB has consistently sat 83-87, T88 with a low spin FB (Max: 1842 rpm; Avg: 1721 rpm via Trackman) inducing steady flow of weak contact. Mixing downer CB at 67-70 (2000-2100s rpm).
