Trash Pandas Classic: Quick Hits

Thursday's Trash Pandas Classic was a huge success, as there was an impressive amount of talent in attendance at the brand new Toyota Field in Madison, AL. This is the home of the newly relocated Rocket City Trash Pandas, the AA-affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.
Today, we want to take a quick look at some of the top performers, both in the workout and during gameplay. from the Trash Pandas Classic. There was a solid mixture of impressive position players and quality arms that showed up for the event. Over the next week, be sure to keep an eye out for more event-related content including statistical leaderboards and scout blogs for each position.
Quick Hits
A solid looking prospect that performed at a high level during the event. Showcased great extension in his swing during his BP round, driving balls to the gaps. 93 mph exit velo. Had some quality AB's during gameplay. Sure handed defender with some upside. 85 mph across the diamond.

'21 RHP/1B Will Varmette, Grissom
The most electric outing of the day came from this rising uncommitted senior. Athletic build at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds. Came out sitting 86-88, 90 mph with a heavy dosage of the pitch. Some arm side run to it and late life provided hitters with some uncomfortable AB's during gameplay. Flipped in a few sliders at 71-74 mph with tight spin. Changeup worked 73-74 mph and was around the zone. One to keep an eye on.

A primary middle infielder that showed well during the event. Active hands at the plate that hit well to all fields during BP. Translated to gameplay, as the switch-hitter had hits from both sides of the plate including a double from the left side. High energy player. Up to 85 mph on the mound with above avg. secondary offerings.
Hitting

Mitchell (Albuquerque, NM) then proceeds to hop on the mound and pound the zone with strikes. Worked 83-85 mph with ASR. Breaking ball ranged 72-74 mph. Changeup played well off the fastball at 77-78 mph.

'21 1B/3B Mason Mann, Priceville
A physical player with some upside from the left side of the plate. Smoked two extra base hits during gameplay, including a triple over the CF's head. Projects as a power hitting 1st baseman. 92 mph exit velo.

'24 RHP/OF Brody King, Huntsville
A true 2-way talent that showed well on the mound and at the plate. Loose swing from the right side of the dish with some juice to pull side. Looks to be more projectable on the mound. Fastball played 79-82 mph and commanded to both sides of the plate during his innings on the bump. Breaking ball showed depth and late bat. Changeup had fade and is a solid future 3rd offering. High ceiling.

'23 C/SS Tyler Sanderson, Grissom
Really like the swing from the left side for this rising sophomore. Loose swing with a feel for the barrel. Lets the hands work during his swing. Multiple hits during gameplay. 2.05-2.16 pop times behind the dish. Reliable behind the plate with flexibility and is very athletic. Receives and blocks well.

'23 3B/RHP Chris Lynam, Grissom
Physical build with some pop from the right side. Line drives during BP with a middle of the field approach. Easy swing and uses the hips well. Hands work well. Above avg. defender at the corner of the infield.

'21 RHP/3B Ben Wade, Life Christian
An athletic build for the rising senior that was very impressive on the mound and at the plate. The arm works well on the bump as he was 83-86, 88 mph and consistent in the zone. Breaking ball showed 11/5 action to it and his a solid 2nd offering. Quick arm with a 3/4 arm slot. Handled the bat well from the right side and posted an exit velo of 91 mph.

'22 LHP/OF William Turner, Hartselle
Some projection in this rising junior on the mound. Clean arm action and smooth delivery. Ball comes out well out of the hand. Fastball played 80-83 mph with command to the inner half of the plate to RHH's. Breaking ball showed 1/7 action and landed for strikes at 73-74 mph. Flashed a couple changeups that keeps hitters off the fastball at 75-76 mph.
