NORTHERN CALIFORNIA - The early signing period has come and gone for Division I baseball programs and 2022 grads (and/or frosh/soph junior college players). As it is every year and will be in every year in the future, there are players who will excel at the D1 level who didn't sign with a program in the early signing period.
Here is a baker's dozen list of players I've seen and personally believe will eventually receive their opportunity, whether it is as a walk-on or a scholarship or after some time at a junior college... regardless, they are talented players and are still awaiting an opportunity.
Listed in order of their place in our class of 2022 California ranking... click on the player name link for access to reports, data, metrics, and for subscribers all the video we have on each player.
Korey Williams SS / 3B / Elk Grove, CA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 61 / POS: 12
Two-way player with the hit talent, defensive chops, and physicality that rate with just about any infielder in the state. |
Noah Canter C / OF / Elk Grove, CA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 137 / POS: 15
Unique combination of talents for a catcher; above average runner, physical run-producer at the plate, and above average defensive tools. |
JC Agard 3B / SS / Sacred Heart Cathedral, CA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 143 / POS: 12
Big arm across the diamond while showing significant power at the plate, particularly to the pull-side and consistent upper-80s on the mound. |
Ryan Zamora RHP / Elk Grove, CA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 149 / POS: 44
Though ended the summer dealing w/some shoulder discomfort, assuming future health he can return to the 88-90 and good CB seen at Area Code tryout. |
Jack Brooks SS / 2B / Vanden, CA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 164 / POS: 29
A left-handed hitter with above average speed, it's those traits combined with what is a high-motor and energetic style of play that stands out quite clearly. |
Kevin Parker Jr. SS / 2B / Berkeley, CA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 166 / POS: 31
Lively body, has shown the defensive tools, including a big arm, that will keep him at SS. The bat flashes as usable tool and the footspeed is well-above average. |
Luca Bove OF / Redwood, CA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 169 / POS: 33
In showcase settings & spring high school games, his hit tool and power potential show up. RHH corner OFs often get pushed aside a bit, but hitters shouldn't be. UPDATE 12/12/21: Committed to Cal-Berkeley |
Jack Sampson OF / 2B / San Joaquin Memorial, CA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 181 / POS: 36
A plus runner and a LHH, generally speaking those two traits are obviously sought after. The defensive tools are strong and flashes of bat talent are encouraging. |
Max Ross OF / St. Francis , CA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 185 / POS: 39
His invitation to ProCase 2021 was based on LHH hit tools and power projection that if/when they show up in the spring season, will get him his opportunity. |
Ryan Lee C / 3B / St. Francis, CA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 188 / POS: 20
All the pieces & tools are present for him to compete w/the top catchers (offense and defense) in this class. Consistency with the bat, like for mose, is the key. |
Ben Giovannetti 3B / 1B / Woodside, CA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 217 / POS: 22
His ability w/the bat, both as a pure hitter & an impact-middle of line-up hitter, showed up loudly at the State Games. His process at the plate is even better. |
Anthony Bianchina SS / 2B / De La Salle , CA / 2023*Rankings StateRank: 223 / POS: 34
A switch-hitter with defensive chops that play at both MIF spots, when seen over multiple games it's clear how often he positively impacts the game as a glue guy. *NOTE: We were alerted after the posting of this that AJ will be reclassifying to the 2023 class |
Cooper Lanz RHP / SS / Buhach Colony, CA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 224 / POS: 62
An everyday SS at the HS level, it's his ability on the mound, particularly his ability to efficiently/aggressively slice up hitters that stands out. Sinker/slider combo. |
